I have decided that the HK 14205 will be my second BM folder. The best points that convinced me were:

* Easy on the eye looks & handle shape
* Great looking hefty blade
* 0.15" thick blade and 3.4" long 154CM steel
* Forum comments giving it the overwhelming thumbs up for opening smoothness

Joe - you mentioned on another thread that this model had a beautiful re-curved blade? BM website photos shows a straight top and bottom edge? You seem to be the expert - which is it?

I prefer the straight cutting edge for sharpening ease!

Last querie - is it available in black plain edge?
Only black combo edges on BM website. Also I searched the web with no joy?
I have seen a photo of Black plain HK 14205 on a blade forum somewhere.

Side Stack, the 14205 may have one more quality that you didn't exactly list, although you came close...the knife as a whole is tough and feels like it can stand up to anything you need to put it through.

As far as the blade shape, I don't mean to speak up for Joe, but it sounds like you read his comments about the 710...which does have a recurve. As Joe would point out if he were online, this one has a straight blade.

Thanks FJ.

Hi 'SStack', without doing a lot of looking I probably meant the 710 - it's the only knife with a recurve I've owned outside of a Snody 220 no longer in the collection.

On sharpening, the blade on the '205 is a lot easier to touchup, but a diamond rod on the 710's edge works passably well for me too.

14205 is arguably one of the best models in any of the the Benchmade lineups and worth owning.

Joe

Flymon, if I could take pictures that good, I'd never complain. Not to hi-jack, but please let us know what kind of camera you used there.

Side Stack,
The HK Knives catalog states: "Modified drop-point w/Recurve" which might be where you got confused. However, it's a straight edge.

I strongly recommend getting one: you won't be sorry. It's a tough horse-race to call but the 14205 just might be my favorite Benchmade. It's a heavy-duty knife that doesn't feel "heavy" in the pocket--if that makes sense.

Yes, excellent pictures!

In regards to the model with the reverse curve, could it have been the 14210 that was being refered to? The 14210 is almost a scaled down version of the 14205, except it has rounded G10 scales and a reverse curved blade.

I forgot about the 14210 which does have a beautiful recurve to it. Like the 14205 in ways but different also, yet both make for a great pairing.

Mike Snody's designs make the HK line what it is. Beautiful knives.
