...thumb studs sit so far from the handle when closed? I just got one, and when I was pulling it out from my pocket, the thumb stud caught and the knife did the Emerson wave thing. Except I wasn't expecting it! When looking at several other BM's, their thumb studs are next to the handle, eliminating this problem.

Anyone else had this experience?

Hey Sturm,

I don’t have this knife but am familiar with your problem. I had to see the picture because I was unaware that the HK Pika had thumb studs. It appears that the handle design is the issue. But is also the best feature. It’s tapered at the thumb so that you get a better grip and maintain a lot more control of the blade, booth open and closed.

The studs have to be way out there when closed so that they clear the handle when open. It looks like a legitimate gripe. The only thing I can think of is to replace the existing studs with shorter studs that will not catch the pocket.

I don’t know if those studs can be removed. They look like they can.

I don’t know if there is a smaller replacement available from Benchmade. If there is they may require you to send it to them for replacement.

This problem will require a call to customer service.
Or a different technique for pocket placement.

Hope this helped and welcome to the forum. Smiler

Yes, I kinda figured it was a design issue, just didn't know if I was the only one who had experienced it.

Thanks for the welcome! The forum has been a trove of information and a danger to the pocketbook!

I've had the same thing happen to me with a lot of knives. My SNG "Waves" itself open on occasion. Just a training issue?
