Use the simple way I sharpen - click here and you'll get your great edge faster.

It's the method in the book The Razor Edge Book of Sharpening where I learned to go to a burr on both sides on the coarse stones, but using a Lansky system so you don't tear up your whole blade. Later, of course, I got my EdgePro and it works even better.

The key really is to get a nice burr with the coarsest stone(s). Once you've done that you've brought your edge down to the center on both sides and the rest is just clearing off the burr (one pass with the medium) and then polishing and refining it. That's why, if you're in a hurry or working on a blade that's going to be used for chopping vegetation and such you don't have to go past the one stroke to take off the burr.
