Hey guys-- I'm attempting to swap out blades from a tanto 14255, put that on a 14200-701/ vice versa. When I remove the pivot screws from a 520, the threaded bushing slips right out, but here, it doesn't. On the -255 the bushing at least slips back and forth to the point that it sticks out beyond the scale by a sixteenth (where it seems to catch, on either side), on the -701 it barely moves at all. Would appear further disassembly is required, but before doing that I thought I'd see if I'm missing something. Anyone swapped these blades out? Thanks-- Rick _________________________ yeah, I'd take an 805M4....

When I swapped blades on my Rift and 111H2O, the threaded bushings were quite snug on both. I took a small philips-head screwdriver and pressed it into the open hole after I'd unthreaded and removed one side of the bushing. Press evenly and move the scales ever so slightly back and forth from each other. Both bushings came loose without much trouble, but there was no way I could get enough to grab onto without pushing via the screwdriver. -----=====-----=====-----=====----- KnifeRights Member

Can't speak for those models but I did do a 525 blade swap awhile ago and I found I had to take the knife completely apart to remove the blade/pivot. Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #960

Carson-- I'm pushing as hard as I can, w/o further success. I've loosened the corner screws that hold the stop in place a bit, that doesn't help. I'll have to return to this after work-- thanks-- Rick CNN- that's what I might have to do, but w/ my 520 the bushing slipped right out, as Carson has described-- _________________________ yeah, I'd take an 805M4....

Rick, I was thinking of the same swap...please keep us posted on your progress. I vaguely remember somebody posting about trying to swap scales. Either the scales were also epoxied to the liners or the screws were fastened/bonded in so tight that they stripped during the removal. I can't recall which it was, but either way, the project wasn't any fun.

Problem w/ a scale swap here is the longer axis stud on the -701 cuz of the thicker scales (shorter, likewise, on the -255). When I get this figured out, this should be a heck of a branch cutter, w/ the thicker grip, and the recurve to keep the knife from slipping off as you're cutting toward yourself-- _________________________ yeah, I'd take an 805M4....

Got it. No amount of loosening screws/pushing hard did it, so I stuck wood wedges in to secure the axis studs (don't know that's necessary, but thought it might prevent new problems) and CAREFULLY removed the screws/scales on the left sides (no epoxy at least on this one, TB)- both pins slipped right out. Man, that -701 looks nice w/ that tanto blade! BTW, the -701 isn't olive G10- it's black G10, painted olive-- Rick _________________________ yeah, I'd take an 805M4....
