My question is, has anyone had there 1100 or 1150 confiscated at the airport?

McAce, to answer you question, no one knows, I have had my pens (both benchmade and timberline) looked at very closely and fore that reason I am sure that even though they had no grounds to take it away, theyt may have considered it.
And a note to all, after working for the airports in my area, any and all security hold the right to remove anything they feel as a threat as they are chraged to up hold safty for teh greater good (I dont agree with this but that is founded)
And in answer to how useful they are as weapons... VERY Cool
I have had many years of training in both Japanese and Kali related arts... these are very useful and wonderful tools to defend your self with.

Here are some links to look into if you are wondering how useful they can be (for the dog brothers website look up "hand bo")

glad to hear it... the pen I had that was questioned was a timberline lightfoot combat pen.
However they are very useful tools to non leathal stricking as well as leathal should it ever come to that.

They took mine at the court house when I went in to pay a traffic ticket, but gave it back to me on the way out the door, said it could be used as a kubaton

while travelling recently I forgot about a micro leatherman in a pocket of my backpack I use as carry-on. Eeker
Instead of taking it they suggested I wrap and mail it. Big Grin
So I went back to where the airport shops are and bought a padded mailbag and stamps and mailed it home. Cool
breezed thru after that. and a couple of bucks saved me alot more money.. Big Grin

As mentioned before by Buddy Shaw. Whether or not you're going to get to keep your Benchmade pen is a the discretion of the Security Authority.

I work for TSA and I've seen some of the most obscure items deemed as a threat to Airplane Security. There is a list of items in specific that are banned but the TSA Guidelines goes on further to give the screening officers the authority to deem something not mentioned in the SOP as a threat as well.

As I've mentioned before with people concerned about losing a valuable knife out of checked baggage to theivery or being deemed a "security threat"... just don't bring it. If you're afraid to lose something, why risk it?

Now I personally would let a BM Pen go if it had come through my lane when I was a screener. Because September 11th wasn't brought on by 200 dollar pens and even more expensive knives, it was done by fake explosives, box cutters, and razors.

But my final words of advise... always err on the side of caution.

Also, feel free to email me anytime you have questions of this type. I'm more than willing to help out.

And Damocles, you're very fortunate that you were given the option to mail you knife home, as that option was removed from my airport almost 3 years ago. The usual offer from the Screener is take it back out to your car, leave it with whoever dropped you off, see if the airline can check the item for you, or "voluntarily abandon it".

I worked in Maximum Security prisons and International security for over 15 years.
You always have a choice over how you treat people.
Which it why I have to got to Customs today to fight TROLLS..

Luck had nothing to do with the screener at the Airport it was just COMMON SENSE and DECENCY from a fellow human being.
Something you find hard to get from people in Authoritay these days..IMHO Wink
