Well, I have had all 3 of my pens now for nearly 2 months.
Turns out the 1100-12 is very rare. I only carry it to church these days.
I carry the 1100-8...every night I work the "HUT". I wear a black 550 para cord slip knot neckless so I can access it one handed. of course the clip is facing forward. Proudly letting folks know that it's a benchmade.
I let a co-worker borrow it to date the dough boxes in the freeezer the day before the next truck arrives. He askes if he can use the water proof pen. Since the freezer door is opening and shutting all the time... a bit of frost is on the outside of the boxes making them slightly damp. he scribes the date with no problem. threw the sharpy away.
The rest of the time I'm carring the 1100-3..even around the house. Sometimes on a para neckless or just in my shorts pocket.
I just recently added a 1200-1. was just to good a deal to pass up. I like it alright. with no clip it just rides in the brag bag most of the time.

I had a feeling someone might ask so here is the backround story of the second cap on the red pen.

I deliver Pizza, so I am always having people sign credit card slips for their food. Sometimes, the receipt maybe damp from steam from hot pizza or the occasional rain. Pen writes every time. Even when there is a little oil on the paper... it simply writes right over it. It is amazing. It gets an admiring glance 1 out of 4 times when I present it. I wear a black 550 para cord slip knot necklace, that I hang the pen from. BENCHMADE facing forward of course. I just un-click the pen and hand it to them tip down, then slip it right back into the cap one handed. Very important since I'm juggling pizza bag, money and the occasional 2 liter.

That's a snippet of a review I did on the pen from whom I bought it from. Almost every...time I handed it to someone they tried to click it open or write with the pointy end. So now when I hand them the little mini clip board with the reciept attached to it..I hand them the pen with a cap on the pointy end, with the tip facing down and I don't have people say, "ouch that's sharp.", when they click the writting end, leaving ink on their thumb Big Grin.
Now when they admire it they ask " Benchmade??? humm nice pen." I can segway into " That's not all they do....."
This one time, this guy said " Benchmade... that was the brand of my first knife."
You guy's can probably already guess the next guy didn't get his PIZZA in 30 minutes or less.

A..N..D.. That's... the reessst of the story.

If your asking, " pens wanting to jump out?"
Jump out of the cap... No, they stay really secure. I usually keep the pen inside the shirt until I need it so it's not just swinging around willie nilly.
If you mean " pens wanting to jump out?
As in off the the neckless??? NO, they hang very well. I have to use a bit of force to get the rope under the clip.
I see your pen is an 1100-1.. Aluminum.. Should be fine. I have worn the 1100-3 several times to the HUT, on the neckless and I sure know it's there but, it has never come "un-capped" by accident.
From the post above you can see, I mainly wear the 1100-8 at the HUT and for all the running up apartment stairs, getting in and out of the car, and bending over to pick up dropped reciepts and stuff, it has never come un-capped either.
I did try a few test tugs the first few days just to see how much effort it would take to un-cap it.I was pretty convinced the pen was secure when I tried to remove the pen from the cap by just holding the body of the pen and jerking down ward, while the neckless was around my neck.
Let me know how it goes.

As a side note...
the 1100-12 came with a black tip..
I wanted a blue tip so the pen would be all blue..
The new blue tip does not fit the cap that came with the pen as securely. It wobbles a bit and un-capps abit easier. So I would not hang the Blue pen with the blue tip from the neckless.
I would if I put the Black tip back on cause it fits proper.

I was going to do the same with the 1100-8 pen..ie get a blue tip so it would be like having
both a blacked tip and blue tip RED bodied pen...
But, if the tips are slightly different in shape or size and I will have the same results as I did with the 1100-12...then I guess I'll just have to buy the actual pen with the blue tip to get a cap that fits proper.

Has anyone else tried what I described? And If So...
What kind of results did you have on a tip switch?
Thank You,
Sincerely,
Fred
