Well, I got my first axis and I couldn't be more happy. Thanks to to all those that helped in my search. It's a great design. I love how it pulls itself closed right at the end. Here's some picture overload with some of my 690 to compare. I had a couple questions for the experts:

1. Is it possible to put barrel spacers on one of these? I think that would really complete the look.

2. I've never had an axis so I'm not sure how much tension should still be on the blade while unlocked. In the videos I've seen it looks like the blade practically free-floats when you're holding the lock back. My issue is that if I tighten the pivot enough to take out all the side to side play, there's quite a bit of tension on the blade even with the lock back. Can't really flick it open. Any advice?

Congrats on your purchase glad you were able to find that ARES you were looking for! Big Grin As far as your question goes for the barrel spacers the answer is yes you can get barrel spacers for the 730 series knives.. I would give benchmade a call, they will most likely have some in stock for your 732, you could send it into benchmade and have them install them for you and while its there you might as well tell them to send it through livesharp that way it will come back to you with the new spacers and scary sharp! And as far as the tension, I would not bother adjusting it, give it some time to break in, add some oil to it like remington oil or Breakfree CLP (thats what I use) and flick it open about a 100 times and it should make it smooth as glass.. Blue Class

You are welcome I am glad you were able to snatch that 732 up! They are pretty hard to find, much less common than a standard 730! Big Grin

The hardest thing I've found about buying an Ares is to find one with:
1. Black G-10 handle
2. Satin finish on the blade
3. Plain edge

If you don't mind other configurations...particularly a CE blade, they're really not too hard to find. If you don't mind them being a Leupold label, I think you can still find them new in wood or coyote brown G-10.

Congrats on your score!

fj, I think green/black G10 735 in PE could be harder to find then a 732. But that's just me Smiler

I'm not even talking about lastest LE's (710-801 and 710-901) Wink
