Thanks folks ......I was thinkin of canceling my order but I dont like to back out , if I say I,ll take something , I like to follow through.
Your post on the steel is varifying that I may not be making a mistake after all. I figure I could always resale it , but now I dont think I have too. Sounds like it will be fun to take camping. Again , thanks for answering my question ....... dj -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contempt Prior to Investigation - Dont knock it till you,ve tried it. I'd think the reason they used 1095 Steel is that for a Tomahawk that gets thrown or is chopping, toughness is the key characteristic that you need to amplify. Historically, 1095 has been very tough...in other words, it can take a hit and not chip or shatter, but still holds its edge reasonably well. Many knife companies use 1095 as their main steel, including RAT Cutlery and Tops.

What does this one measure? Looks like the wrecking bar end is a little longer than what's been shown by BM. I wonder if that's the prototype sheath. I expected something a little heavier duty. Regardless, I gotta have one.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing." |
is 1095 more likely to rust than D2?

Yes, unless it's coated. D2 will stain, but has a higher chromium content.

Very Nice Pics and congrats on that Hawk, I really like the looks of the 172, and the steel they chose was a good choice IMO..

It's 16.25" long, the head length is 7.50" & the spike length is 3.5". The pry bar end is longer than the original R&D model. That is the only difference I can find between this one and the R&D model that was shown at the SHOT show. I was surprised by the sheath when I opened up the box. I guess I was expecting something different. This one works great and is Molle Compatible. One thing I really like about the Sheath is the bottom portion that attaches to the handle is removable. I personally think it really isn't needed so it is nice that it can be removed if needed. I am pretty sure that this prototype is the final one before production starts. |
