I wasn't satisfied with black scales on my 806-901, so I decided to experiment a bit. Thanks to OBJ Viking and R A Miller for giving me the idea! I painted the scales with Kustom Kolor paints, which are acrylic urethanes that were made by House of Kolor specifically for plastic scale models. It uses the same pigments as HoK paints for cars, but in an acrylic urethane carrier.

For the 806-901, I combined some "military green" "military brown," "military grey" and flat black, as the military green was too... green, and not enough olive drab. I used "military insignia blue" on the mini-Grip scales, and polished all of the hardware.

I like the OD green, but don't you lose some of the textured grip on the 806 scales? I have 806 scales on one of 2 TSEK users just cuz of the texture. May not look as nice as the ribbed version that came w/ the knives, but sure does grip better--

ryxlyx,

The paint does fill in the texture somewhat, but it still has more grip than the Valspar paint. I think I put on too many coats of the Kustom Kolor, in retrospect. I had the lighter green on and then just darkened it and added it instead of starting over. I used less paint on the mini-Grip, and it has a rougher texture than the 806. The paint certainly did not increase the grippy feel of the knives, but with the right number of coats, it did not decrease it. At some point I may refinish the 806 and use less paint to see how it feels. Time will tell whether use will make the knives slicker than it feels now.

OBJ,
Thanks for the link to your thread about it!
