Got these beauties in the mail last night. Date-wise, they were made in 2005. Handle scales are Micarta, blade material flat ground 440C.

The larger has a 3.4" blade, the smaller, and it's little at that, has a 2 3/8" blade.

Here's pics:

Nice ones Joe, they remind me of a Sodbuster.

Thanks DB, you're right about that. I ran a search for Sodbuster and these NRA's run a very similar pattern. Glad to find these, they weren't easy to track down.

Hey Joe, I see the pivot on the proto seems to be adjustable and not so on the smaller 12410. The other non-proto 12400's that I've seen also seem to have no pivot adjustment. If this is the case, seems the only one to get is the proto 12400. Can you please let me know if I'm correct on this and your thoughts on blade play on these. Thanks.

Hi Angler, true...on my 12400 Proto there's a T6 adjusting pivot and it came in handy, there was a little too much play, that fixed it nicely. And yes the 12410 can't be adjusted, but mine is centered without any play.

I did some research this morning, and found references on BladeForum about non-adjustable 12400's and of the pics I could find, it looks like when the knife was moved to D2 from 440C steel they went with the pivot in the photo below.

I found a good set of photos on BritishBlades of the 12400 without the adjustable pivot, here's a couple of pics of the difference:

These are interesting knives, and reading a piece about them sparked my interest.

The lock is a springless design, looks like it's part of the liners, and lends a strong lock when open. Also they (BM), used phosphor-bronze washers for large and small models, an aluminum spacer for the 12400 and standoff's for the 12410.

These are a piece of company history and are worth seeking out. Why the change? If I find out more and I'll share it with you guys.

Thanks Joe. Smiler
I've found the regular production 12400 in 440C with no pivot adjustment. In fact I have not found any but the proto, given away at the 2005 NRA meeting, with the T6 adjustment.
