Very different finish and marking/logos on these two Osborne designs.
One has the 'BK' coating, the other probably BC1, maybe BT. I'd suggest BC1 due to the more 'liquid' look of the finish. That's my guess. 350, 520, 525, 525BK-1101, 530, 530-901, 580-1102, 580 Proto, 583-1, 585-1, 635, 710-1, 710HS, 710D2, 722, 732, 740, 740 Proto, 741, 745, 746, 750, 760, 790, 800, 805-1101, 806BK-901, 812, 830, 831, 835HS, 840, 845, 905, 907D2, 910, 910SCG, 912D2, 913D2, 12400 Proto, 12410, 14205, 14210. I don't think its BC1...as far as I know they only made BC1 941 blades in 154cm...they had an LE stamp to. (Edit, except for the blue one I think, which was etchless, or maybe it was the red I can't remember.)
I would guess BT on the bottom one...but the question arises did they ever use s30v w/ BT??? I thought the steel upgrade occured after they switched from BT to BK, but I have no idea. Anyone actually know?????? This message has been edited. Last edited by: canadianknifenut, Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #960 |

I,d either go with the BT - BK or maybe one just has a heavier coating on it (thicker).
Again ..... another person that really doesnt know -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contempt Prior to Investigation - Dont knock it till you,ve tried it. Thank you joe_karp,
and the letter K under s30v mean BK coating. but what make a difference between Black K;T;C ? (i quess chemical compounds) and which one are more insensitive? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lord, set me free from necessaries, bless me with luxury. BK1 ® COATING: BK1 coating is a matte black coating that provides excellent corrosion protection, which exceeds the ASTM-117 spec for saltwater while possessing higher scratch resistance.
BT2 ® COATING: A proprietary blade coating that is Xylan ® based to provide excellent corrosion resistance which exceeds the ASTM-117 spec for saltwater and increases overall surface lubricity. Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #960 |

Brought to you by a little late night research...
BENCHMADE BLADE COATINGS BK1 ® COATING: BK1 coating is a matte black coating that provides excellent corrosion protection, which exceeds the ASTM-117 spec for saltwater while possessing higher scratch resistance. BT2 Coating: A proprietary blade coating that is Xylan ® based to provide excellent corrosion resistance which exceeds the ASTM-117 spec for saltwater and increases overall surface lubricity. BP1 Coating: Black Pearl (BP) is a PVD (physical vapor deposition) coating made up of Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiCN for short). It is a darker, near black, scratch resistant coating with nice decorative qualities. BC1 Coating: BC1 is a boron carbide coating process. It offers an extremely hard, thin ceramic surface layer to the blade, and it is applied in a vacuum chamber. DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) Coating: DLC is a very thin (1.5 – 2 microns) but highly abrasion resistant coating that is bonded to the metal by physical vapor deposition (PVD) under vacuum. DLC is a much more abrasion resistant coating than the BK1 black coating used on the CPM S30V stainless steel blade of the standard RSK® Mk1. (From Aeromedix site.) So: These are the black coatings used on Benchmades. Which is more 'Insensitive'? Probably BC1 and DLC, they're pretty tough coatings. 350, 520, 525, 525BK-1101, 530, 530-901, 580-1102, 580 Proto, 583-1, 585-1, 635, 710-1, 710HS, 710D2, 722, 732, 740, 740 Proto, 741, 745, 746, 750, 760, 790, 800, 805-1101, 806BK-901, 812, 830, 831, 835HS, 840, 845, 905, 907D2, 910, 910SCG, 912D2, 913D2, 12400 Proto, 12410, 14205, 14210.
