I watched that one too, good deal on a great looking 750. Hope the steel performs as great as it looks!

That 750 is Smokin!!

I can tell you that all of the Damascus blades I have cut very well and stay sharp very well. Someone else may have mentioned this, but with all of those 500 layers of steel pounded together, then grinding an edge on it really gives you some interesting micro-serration action for cutting. Plus, I don't know how else to describe it, but Damascus steel seems dry like a High Carbon steel. Not at all like S30V which has more of a greasy behavior to it.

That's interesting diction. What do you mean by that? I have no experience with S30V.

Chang, you'll just have to try one sometime. I guess the first place I noticed the difference was on a sharpening stone. To me, a carbon steel like 1095 or M2 has a grindy feel going across a stone...almost like rubbing two stones together. S30V, on the other hand, feels more muffled going across the stone, like it is coated with something...like grease.

A few minutes ago I just ordered a fixed blade from Knives of Alaska that has D2 steel. They offer the same knife in S30V for $20 more. Now that floors me because having used both steels extensively, I would pay $20 more to get D2. I think for knife blades it is a better steel than S30V. I guess I'm just not the world's greatest S30V fan...I have some S30V Spydercos and knives from Lone Wolf and CRK in S30V and I like those fine. I've just never gotten warm & fuzzy feelings from the BM S30V's I've used and sharpened. BM does a better job with D2 IMO.
