I am so glad that you did this. I am in the process of trying to make some indigo denim micarta scales for my 812sbt-lh, so your post comes at just the right time. What barrel spacers did you use? I can't figure out what size to order. One other thing: I don't think the 812 had Ti liners. I think that was only the 800. The 812 had stainless steel liners. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````` Confuse-us say: "Man who stand on toilet high on pot." Yeah, there is lots of specs out there that say two different things. I am unsure what the liners are made of. BM doesn't keep the specs up on the site with the old knives. Have fun, some denim micarta will look hot! *********************** -Drew Make a life not a living... | 520 | 522 |800s | 520s | 806-901 | 806sbk-CF | 710-801 | 610 | 615 | 6150 | 943 | 760 lfti | 3300 | 806 D2 | 740s

Yeah, well... I buggered up the scales when cutting them out and sanding them down, so now I have to make some more "micarta." (yes, I'm making my own). I may try to make it a bit thicker than the G10 scales so I can give it some contour, or I may just wait to do that on my black/green/tan canvas micarta scales I'm going to make for my 585. The problem after shaping is that I'm unsure what to use to polish the micarta after I get it shaped, as well as countersinking the screw holes, and a host of other questions. Don't be surprised if you get a lengthy PM from me picking your brain, as you seem to have figured out most of what I'm stuck on. Where did you get your barrel spacers, and what size did you use? ``````````````````````````````````````````````````` Confuse-us say: "Man who stand on toilet high on pot." Just an fyi for you scale makers - KnifeKits has stepped drill bits that work perfectly for the pivot bolt and the counter bored (not counter sunk) button head backspacer screws. The step bit makes an inner hole for the screw and an outer counter bore that perfectly fits the screw head in one operation. I can send you the bit sizes I got if you're interested (or just use a caliper to check them yourself...). Bring on the PM bud, I'd love to help you get started. I am not an expert, but I have figured out a few things. As for countersinking, I always drill my holes and countersink them long before I even profile the scales let alone shape them. I don't use any facny bits, but a good drill press makes all the difference. Lay up the micarta a good bit thicker than you think you'll need, and you should be good to go. I try to use material for shaped handles on BM knives that are about .188" when BM uses typlically around .100" material. Just a thought. *********************** -Drew Make a life not a living... | 520 | 522 |800s | 520s | 806-901 | 806sbk-CF | 710-801 | 610 | 615 | 6150 | 943 | 760 lfti | 3300 | 806 D2 | 740s
