Had some me-time this morning, and it’s been a while since my EDC has been broken down for a good cleaning and maintenance, so I thought I’d take a few pictures. It’s one of the long-discontinued Ares 732 plain edge 154CM made for Moteng. I replaced the clip with a park’d arrow instead of the painted one. I also wanted to add some barrel-type spacers in order to ‘open up’ the back side of the knife for easier cleaning. The only thing I don’t like about the Ares is the closed 710-style back spacer.

The only thing I didn’t do was completely take apart the AXIS bar and studs, as it’s a real pain to do and get back together.

I ordered a couple of these stainless steel plain barrel standoffs. They were the right length, but because they’re threaded on each side, the long Ares propriety screw wouldn’t go through all the way to attach to the built-in nut on the opposing scale. So, I drilled out the threads inside the spacer to allow the screws to go through. Here it is shown with the OEM plastic spacer.

The pivot screw and bronze washers.

After a good cleaning and some militec applied with heat, the Ares was ready for reassembly.

Remember to pull back on the AXIS bar to make installing the pivot screw easier.

Here they are freshly installed. The fit was perfect.

Then I used some clove oil to wipe down the scales before screwing in the new clip.

Touched up the blade, and gave it a good cleaning. Almost done!

While at it, I weaved a new lanyard, and added a little bling.

The finished product.

Me too. I wish there were more options available out there. It's nearly impossible to find decent standoffs online. I'd love to have a pair of anodized blue spool-type spacers for this knife.

I love the Elishewitz designs, esp. the 732. Thanks for taking both the time and pics Agony, that was great and a keeper for reference purposes.
