With my new 580-1102 back from Benchmade, I matched it with the 585-1 and am pleased to see how they compliment each other. Now the blade shape is very similar.

Here's a couple of pics:

Hey 'Loony', I sent up the 580-1102 under warranty due to a very poor grind line, apx. 1/2" long on the left side of the blade near the tip. You could easily see it.

What I expected was to have the blade replaced with another standard 580 blade, albeit in M390 being a LE, and with the 22/50 re-done.

What they chose to do was replace the blade with one designed for a 581, and did the re-marking on that.

I would've opted for the original blade shape, but now think I prefer this newer version.

Now that looks like a very nice pair, I honestly can't understand BM's thoughts with using the Cheep Honeycomb Valox on such a nice knives in the first place (just my pet peeve with the standard 585/580)...

You pet peeve is shared by many AB. Since both R&D and Prototype versions of the 580 Barrage came out in G-10, the choice to go to Valox in the full production version remains a mystery.

Only in LE runs did they choose G-10 for both the 580 and 585 respectively, and the cost of the knife went up. What's up with that?

Between the two materials, G-10 makes a huge difference in the look and feel of the knife.

Let me solve the mystery, it's was MONEY...LOL

That's what we use to call "Penny Wise and Pound Foolish", but they have sold a lot of them as they are with the Cheep Honeycomb Valox.....

I am just lucky I have some Warm G10 Scales left over from a project, personally for my hand I prefer the Warm Style over the standard style in G10 anyway...
