I have a Prototype August 1998 710. And a Pre-Production Run 0045 of 1000. I can not find much info on these particular models. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum. Try posting this in the knife subforum with specific questions on what you would like to find out about the knives. There is a lot of knowledge here and I am sure someone will be able to help you out.

Never mind the Pre-Production which is worth about what a normal 710 would've been at the time, the Prototype is the real prize. If that thing is new in box I would keep it that way. It's worth a nice chunk of change.

Wait, I thought pre-production 710's had aluminum handles just like prototypes. Can somebody confirm this?

Thank You. I have the info you requested. It is new in box how ever the box is not in perfect shape. The knife is in perfect condition with original factory oil. Never been used. No scratches on blade. The knife I am talking about is the 710. I also have a PRE-PRODUCTION 705s 0045 of 1000. Is that one ok for an every day carry knife or will it lose it's value? I also have a Kershaw Ricochet 1520 New In Box as well if anyone is interested.

Thank you very much.

Hi B-Lock,

The 710 is valuable even if the box is slightly tattered, which is common. In value terms just having the box makes the knife worth more, and in general, plain edges get more interest than those with partially serrated (Combo) edges.

On your 705, they are getting harder to find these days, so I would hold onto that one too. IMO anytime a knife goes into a pocket and sees use that scuffs, scratches, etc. knocks the overall value off the potential 'asking' price.

Also, if you read the postings, there are plenty of us that say a knife is to be used and 'not looked at', so it's really up to you...just know those two, the 710 and 705 are worth something more unused than used.

...And as to the Kershaw, mentioning your interest here isn't the right place, you should get photos of it and put the thing in the 'Member want to sell Benchmades' section.

We also like to have a Benchmade offered for sale typically, (not just a knife from another Mf'r...does that make sense?) since this is about them and not others, so that's a 'loose' rule but the correct way to do a sale here.
