Wow, Po, that's quite a statement! Enought to get me to look into one, anyway. I still won't order one blind, I need to handle one at a dealer first. You know, sort of a "gateway drug" knife, lol. I don't own an AFCK, but I do know one thing: that Hardtail would be less of a PITA to sharpen without the 710's recurve.

And that's the same reason I looked at the H&Ks, but wouldn't bother with the H-D line. I love the bikes, just not too enamored of the company. The Bar & Shield on the handle and company name emblazoned on my 13960 are very unsightly.

Well...I think the other off-putting thing for me is the bright aluminim finish on the frame...I'd love to have that cera-coated, or however they finished the frame on that gold class Torrent.

But the handle feels great. It is thick and substantial, really fills the hand. The handle is rounded and contoured with a nice palm swell. It is comfortable and light. When it first came out I paid full retail for one at the local Harley dealership. At the time I wrote that it was a quantum leap ahead for Benchmade, leaving behind the slab sided handles of the previous century. The Ares was probably the first model to do that, but the Hardtail has a massive aluminim frame. It has to be one of the strongest knives Benchmade has made.

I love D-2, I love the classic bowie profile. The grind is wide, the point is fine. Great knife.

I'm struggling right now with the temptation to get a Black Hardtail...the coating on those actually IS ceramic...but like you said in another thread, Doc, sometimes you have to take stock and draw the line.

Guilty... Smiler

I have an 806-1101 on order though, and with the contoured handle, I think it will be one of my favorite knives of all time. I have always been a huge AFCK fan since my first one which I got while I was still working on my dad's fishing boat. I worked that thing almost to death. It was a great companion. I'm really looking forward to having a more refined update.

Sighhhhh...

Po, you have to stop this now. Remember the scene in the original Blues Brothers movie where Jake was in the church with the sunbeam shining on him, and the Rev. Cleofus James was shouting "DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT!?" And Jake was shaking all over with restraint just before doing those handsprings to go jump into the dancing in the aisles?

Yeah? Well that's me right now restraining myself from running out and buying a Hardtail, LOL!

And damnit, there's another gun show this weekend, too!!!

Haaaahahahahaha!!

Did I mention how cool it is that the thumb studs and Axis buttons are shaped like motor pistons?

Big Grin

No, but I can see them in the photo now. And I also just noticed the "Willie G" skull on the scales. My friend Jake has the Willie G Softtail with those things all over the tank and fenders.
