As much as it pains me to say, I think I am moving away from the "hobby" aspect of knives.

Over the past little while, I had been thinking that all I really need is two knives an EDC and a back up should it get dull and I am too lazy to sharpen etc.The rest, while awesome, were not really doing much except for sitting there and being occasionally looked at. You know I had some models which I rotated in and out, but overall I kept coming back to the 960 for my edc duties. It satisfies 97% of everything I personally need in an EDC pocket knife, the best I have found, and I've owned a bunch of knives.

So I had been downsizing for awhile, but occasionally picked up the new model here and there, and I always figured I would keep 5-10 knives. Fast forward to I got laid off effective July 31, so this expedited the whole downsizing process. I have money saved, so I will be ok, but it was just a matter of the most effective use of my funds. For example I wanted to buy a netbook, I could either a) dip into savings or b) sell a knife. Given the choice, I just couldn't justify keeping a bunch. You know, I am thinking of going to Seattle next week (or the week after as I need to see an MLB game!), and with all the knives I just sold I have a good chunk, if not all, of the hotel paid, again it is a choice, dip into my savings or sell some knives.

So I am down to whats in my sig. The two 960's and M4/wilkins. I will always carry a pocket knife as I find it extremely valuable to have on me. However, I don't know if I will ever collect knives as I have in the past. That being said, a super steel 943 would be cool and I would probably buy that, I would prefer it to the ritter for carry purposes.

I know how you feel. Been there (still there Frowner)... I found out that once you get started on downsizing it's really easy letting the rest of 'em go. Like you, I don't know if I ever get back into collecting, but if (most likely "when") I do it won't be limited to one brand/maker. Too many interesting knives out there to explore Roll Eyes

I think I'm on the verge of starting a sell off myself. I really don't have the loot to collect and I have a bunch of knives, I know I won't use. The first year was fine, but I went a wee bit overboard this past yearBig Grin. I just need some more time lol.

Trevor, i hope the forum doens't lose you with you giving up the hobby.

I will be around, deciding to sell my collection is not indicative of a lack of love for knives hahah, I still love them and always will. Just has to do with allocation of the dollars at this point in my life.

Long live the lone 943.

Don't think I posted my happy trade with CKN.

Everything went great. After reading this thread, I will be sure to keep the one of your last blades aside, just in case you relapse Smiler

I can probably drive it up there faster than the post...
