If you bisect the spine of the knife, and one side of the bisected edge is wider than the other, then it stands to reason that the narrower side of the edge is weaker than the thicker side- especially when it is at the tip of the blade...

Uneven grinding of the blade can be fixed easily- however this uneven grind makes for an inferior blade- and begs the question: Is it worth the money we pay?

That's been what I mean... Do I still buy BM's? Yes... Do I look for this in the blades I buy now at the B&M? YES!

I've seen quite a few at the B&M. And like I said, before I realized that BM's quality control was so poor I didn't know I'd have to look for it so I own a couple that have this defect...

For those that want to do something about it, I'd assume this is fully covered by the warranty and that would be answered by a quick phone call.

Under full warranty BM usually pays for return shipping and covers the 'shipping to' costs as well as I found out with my 635 I sent up with that defect on the blade.

Wish it didn't happen but it does...on the other hand the turnaround is pretty fast. I've had a Buck 112 up for refurbishing and the estimate as of this morning was a full 8 weeks. I almost forget I own the thing...Roll Eyes

I think I might be sending them back to BM actually... I didn't know that they'd replace the blade for that- thanks JoeSmiler

Benchmade refunded my shipping costs when I sent my 527 for a blade replacement because of a very uneven grind. I actually got the refund check before the knife came back, lol. Amazing customer service.

You just have to make sure Benchmade authorizes it first, obviously.

Edit:
I just wanted to add BM's response to my first email about the uneven grind. This is not referring to the blade edge, but the actual hollow grind itself. It was quite a bit different from one side to the other.

"We would be glad to take care of that here at the factory for you as it should not be that way."

Just thought I'd throw this out there..

I've had my 580S for a week, and I just noticed the grind is not even (must not have bothered me much if I'm just noticing it now Big Grin)... Anyways, on the Osborne labeled side, the top swedge goes even with the tip of the knife... When you turn it over to the Blue Class logo'ed side, the top swedge stops well above the tip of the knife Confused... Certainly doesn't affect function much, and I'm just noticing it now.. But its there.
