At the end of the day, as long as you paid user pricing, it doesn't matter much. If the holes are over the pivot washers, I suppose you might try to get hold of screw that could be shortened and screwed into the holes to keep dirt, etc. out of the washer area.

Are the holes threaded? And do they go all the way to the washers? They look more like lubricating holes than clip holes, since there are only two of them.

As far as the rubber grommet goes, they are ideal on knives with hole openers. I've used a rubber hole plug that sticks out on one side only, and it makes a big difference in opening that style blade. They are hard to find in the right size. I dug mine out of some old car parts bins that I've been throwing odd pieces into over the years. I looked all over and tried to find a jobber to supply me with them but was never successful.
