I own a 710 McHenry Willliams. It's my 2nd EDC after my SOG Flash II
I'm enjoying the knife so far except:

1. It came with a blunt/dull tip. It was not pointy or needle sharp like my SOG FLash II.
Is it supposed to be this way for some reason I have not learned about yet?
The cutting the edge was good though
and

2. I noticed a few days ago it has developed some sideways play when the blade is deployed.

Then today I shook it for what ever reason and there is a rattle in the handle up by the Axis lock.

I'm still new to this knife but that doesn't sound right to me.
Could there be a loose component in the lock, did it break?
I do not want to take it apart myself and void the warranty.

I had the same problem with my 940. I got fed up with the rattling and took the knife completly apart. Then the rattle went away. Just try this and if it doesnt go away talk to benchmade about it.

It's the stop pin. Where the blade hits when its open. That pin will rattle on some, it's been mentioned before on the forum. Some of the guys have suggested a small drop of blue locktite, some have suggested sending it in to Benchmade and others suggest dealing with it. It's up to you. There are a few ways to fix it though.

Would I be alone in kinda liking the rattle?

My grip rattles and I don't mind it at all. Sometimes when I am bored I shake and listen to the sound.

Unless it drives you crazy, I'd leave it alone, at least don't use Loc-Tite...the stop pin is meant to spin freely, and if 'locked' in, will develop a flat spot.

Now - if you decide to do something about both blade tip not being sharp and the stop pin issue, yes, send it in to Benchmade for warranty service...call them at 800-800-7427 and ask for Customer Service. They will take care of your 710.

how is your blade play ? if it is to bad it could make the blade rattle too ...
as it doesn't seem to be bad to me, i will try first to tighten the pivot. if the everything is allright then, i would unscrew the pivot, put a drop of locktite and try to find the "g-point" : no blade play and smooth opening.
if the rattle doesn't disappear, it clearly comes from the stop pin. i would just put a little drop of locktite on a corner ...

I second Pascals notion on attempting to tighten the pivot screw, chances are thats all it is, I had a 940 that had blade play and rattled a wee bit, I took a bit and tightend up the tension on the pivot and the problem went away..

Another idea that couldn't hurt aside from the pivot tightening, try tightening the handle and clip screws, that might bring the frame in enough to stop the rattling.

It's the stop pin.
I pinched the handle right there and shook it and there was no rattle.
I'm gonna just buy a blue box repair kit and try tightening the pin that runs through the blade. I bet the rattle started at the same time as the blade play.
The blade play is not terrible but with time will get worse and really should not be there.
I gotta say for my 1st BM I'm kinda let down.
Not that I let that stop me from buying a 2nd 710!
