Really is a solid video.
Two points: Only goes to show that 154CM steel is a great steel, takes a great edge and can keep with it even after serious abuse.

The other point, the lock fail does raise some questions as it does'nt really seem it took that much preasure to fail, frankly, I expectd it would stand more.
That raises another question, is it a good thing that a knife lock does have a strees failing point when the actual knife lock systems is saved from serious damage by failing rather than having something completely break which can leave you completely knifeless out in the field.

In all, goes to show what I always thought about the lowly griptilian, that it's a great solid work knife that deserves respect.

I love videos like this because it really drives home the quality and craftsmanship you can get from a lowly, god forbid, base model knife. *Gasp!* There are a whole mess of knife forum folks out there that seem to think that you can't get anything real done without the latest and greatest high-speed/low-drag Gucci steels. It's good to see these tests showing that you can kick the crud out of those "obsolete steels" and they can and will come back swinging.

I love my 550HG and I carry it daily.

as far as i am concerned, it is hard to go wrong with 154CM/ATS-34.

It was not that many years ago that it was THE super-steel to have, and was bested only by the hand forged blades of the day.

Looks to me that the button hit the wood and knocked it back.
Maybe not though.

Fact 1. No folder is designed for batoning.
Fact 2. If you absolutely have to baton with a folder, never do it while it's locked open. Release the lock before hitting on the blade.
