Just curious, did they make more than the 1000 first production run without any kind of numbering on the blade. Can anyone shed any light on this, thanks.

Yes they make more than the standard 1000 1st production runs. I think the dealers are stil trying to sell through the first batch of knives though. I would say that by the firdt of the year if not sooner you could possibly start seeing the ful production runs hitting the shelves. You could also ask the dealers if they have any in stock or call BMK and ask when they will be shipping them out.

One other option is to see if BMK would replacethe blade for you.

I'm awaiting one from a eBay seller, it doesnt have a number on the blade. So the non numbered ones are made after the first 1000, is that correct? I know there isn't a difference besides the markings but just curious how this stuff works. It would be cool though to have a numbered blade for my EDC...haha.

Welcome Siu, seems there was a bad batch only with the larger 580's, which has been addressed according to Benchmade. So any of the new 580/585's should be just fine.

Thanks for the welcome, Joe (and yes, that was my first post!)

I appreciate the info. I was thinking of getting the mini but was afraid to get one that had the problem and wasn't sure which run was affected. I realize that BM has excellent customer service but I didn't want to have to go through that.

Glad to help Siu, I notice you're somewhere in the neighborhood, nice to have another Benchmade fan in CoCo County.
