Well thought I would through my two cents in the ring on the 585. I purchased mine about a week ago here in Houston, yes they are scarce as hens teeth. I have the 585S as I use the serations as work law enforcement. This knife was to replace my aging 814S that I have carried since 92. It had some tough shoes to fill, but so far has done so with flying colors. My 585 and 814 were carried off and on duty everyday during that time. I like others agree I would have like G-10 scales on this knife as well. The Valox isn't too bad, but it does feel cheap in comparison to G-10 or CF. No spring problems here everyone and thier mother have been playing with it since I got it. I did change the split arrow clip out as it did not provide enough surface grip for me<[more prefference than anything. I replaced it with an extra clip I had laying around for my 813/814 series knifes. It works great, looks great and give a little more purchase for my fingers when deploying. Overall I am very happy with this knife. Even with it being a little thicker than my 814, I don't seem to notice it. It has handle a few task, scraping wallpaper cutting some plastic ties etc etc. The bade is still sharp enough to shave hair. I I carried the 814S cause I couldn't find a benchmade that was good enough to replace it. The 585S seems to fit the bill just fine. Looks like the 814 will stay retired. I'll try and get a pic of my 585 with the other clip on it later.

Welcome Texaspoff.

It's good to hear your experience with the Barrage and the fact that it is a positive experience is even better.

Hi Texaspoff,

Welcome to the Forum. Glad to read you like your 585. While mine won't replace my old 812 AFCK in function and simplicity I still love it. While I own a couple of 580's this smaller model gets more carry time and the smoothness is a big factor.

Welcome texaspoff, good review of your 585,and i like the idea of swapping out the clip.I think the factory one is a little undersized for a really secure fit.Hope you stick around.

Just another note on the 585. I've been spending the day with it in pocket and it's quickly becoming my favorite sub-3" EDC.

The thing's probably as fast as any auto I've owned, and maybe the smoothest opener of any I currently own as well.

You guys get the chance and don't own one of these I'd highly recommend it as a should, if not must have.

If they come out with a G-10 version, it would be one of my favorite knife.

I agree completely, Mark. the G-10 could even be thinner and a blue-black or green-black to really improve the knife.

(Maybe I'll have Chax knives do that come tax refund...)

Just got a 580 NIB in at the shop.

There is no production numbers on the blade. Figure the 1st thousand are gone and out to the general public.

It is smooth opening and very fast. Faster than my Infidel. The grip is somewhat thick, but either the mini or the full size wouldn't be too difficult to carry all the time.

Hopefully, from what I was reading, all the problems with the spring breakages are truly over and it's good to go.
