hey guys just joined after buying my first BM its a 707 i picked up today, and wanted to ask if anyone had any tips or tricks to help keep the edge one the knife and to maintain the axis lock, this knife sure seems alot better than the kershaw and buck knifes its replacing, lost the buck and broke the tip on the kershaw. whats the recomed sharpener, its got a 154CM blade. also i got to say the axis opens just as fast as my old two knifes that were both spring assisted.
thanks
Jared

Sry if i posted in the wrong section please let me know if i did.

Welcome FoxJ. Congratulations on getting the 707. It's a nice knife that I enjoy carrying from time to time myself. As far as maintaining the edge goes, I have had good luck with the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It is more than adequate to maintain the edge of a 154CM blade, just don't let the knife get too dull or you'll be working on those ceramic rods for a long while trying to get the edge back.

As far as maintaining the Axis lock, I just drop a little Tuf-Glide into the slots where the springs are to keep it a little lubricated every once in a while. The Axis lock doesn't require much maintenance otherwise. If you do encounter any problems with the knife, don't hesitate to contact Benchmade. They have excellent customer service and will help you with any problem that arises. I doubt you will see any problems with it thought.

Now that you've entered the Benchmade world, you may never be able to go back to Kershaw or Buck... Smiler If you have any other questions, this is a great place to ask them. There is always someone here that will probably be able to help you out.

I use my Edge Pro...

what you're not impressed?!

pretty much anything can work on 154CM, like most steel if you keep it sharp it won't get dull and cause undue suffering on your part.

welcome to the forums Big Grin there are alot of great guys here.

what do you think of your new knife, or have you not tried it out yet.

razor sharp from factory? no blade play?

this may not be THE place to post... unless you wanna give us your opinion of the knife...

you like how it looks? plan on carrying it every day? etc. etc.

to answer your question better, what grit is your diamond coated steel?

You can use the diamond steel to sharpen the 707, but, as Skimo said, it depends on the grit of the steel. If the steel is rather coarse, it will leave an extremely "toothy" edge on the knife, so you may want to purchase something a little finer to finish it, giving it a finer edge. It's all a matter of preference of what kind of edge you're going for.

The 707 is a favorite EDC for me. It is a nice size and is well made with that wonderful Axis lock best on the market. I just bought a Mini-Barrage and it is about the same size just a little larger profile and heavier. Great AO though. I sharpened my 707 on a Spyderco Sharpmaker and it brought back to razor sharpnes with just a few strokes. An excellent sharpener just don't let the knife get too dull. BTW, BM Blue Lube and Cleaner is wonderful stuff. The only thing I use on my BMs. It literally makes the blade fly open. The best Lube for smoothness I have used. Enjoy the 707.

I have been looking at the 707 and I like it. I have a question for you. Is the G10 grippy or smooth? Wish my local dealer carried Benchmade.

The G10 adds a little bit of texture. To me, it's just enough to give it some grip and work with the pocket clip to keep the knife from slipping in and out of the pocket too easily.
