Different variations on a theme. The Snody scary Tanto has some interesting uses I learned along the way. It has 2 different cutting edges that can make this style useful in some interesting ways. The front part is flat and shares none of the problems associated with a recurve. I also gave it a finer edge. It will dull faster than the recurve and poses no problems in sharpening it alone.

The shoulder will make deep slashes using the weight of the blade only. Blade Thickness: 0.150" That’s thick at the spine and tip.

I remember purchasing the HK Tanto for the cool factor and my experience with Snody Axis locks. I had nothing to lose. First I loved it, then hate, then used and sharpened and used some more. I learned a lot from this blade as my tastes are still evolving.

I've always likes tantos. I need to track down a non-serrated Snody design one... That thing rocks!

A Pair of Aces--

Streamlined the spine of the satin, just for a cleaner/different look. Both grip well--

I am a self proclaimed tanto hater. However after hearing FJ say good things about the re-curve tanto I gave it a shot.

I agree with you Doc, they are interesting and much more usable than I would have initially thought. While not my first choice, in terms of utility, it is cool to have one in the rotation.

I used to be a tanto hater too. But that was back in the day when people actually used to claim that tanto blades were more "tactical", stronger, etc. That argument seems pretty settled at this point, and I have a lot of great drop point hard use folders with good wide grinds, so I feel more free to enjoy a wider variety of blades and styles. So when I recently picked up a Warn tanto to switch blades with a Barrage, I found I really like the Warn tanto blade just for its coolness. It really looks cool to me, and I enjoy carrying the mini Warn even though it is a CE tanto.

Not only that, but the amount of actual cutting I do with my "EDC" knives during the work week has reduced over the years. For the coffee packages and so on that I use my knives for these days, a cool looking Mini Warn Tanto works quite well.

Of course, I've still got my 520 variants and my 140 for weekends when I might actually need a KNIFE. Wink

Ain't that the truth. The office environment just isn't as harsh as it used to be Big Grin

Big difference in generations. My Grandpa wore his folders down to nothing and threw them away, or gave them to me, and used them all day on the farm. Trim this, graft that, slice this. He's long gone, and so is the farm. Now it's a sub-division and like many of us, the new residents probably cut very little aside from opening letters.

Sorry for the slight drift, just musing here. I miss both him and the farm, 'twas a pretty magical place.

I fully understand you Mr. Karp, I live in a small farming community with a small piece of land I bought some years ago when nobody wanted to live here.
To me, it's my own little slice of heaven.
Back on topic, I see no practical use for a tanto blade, never have, BUT, some are very cool and taste is subjective so, enjoy.
From my experience my 550 griptilian is realy the only knife I need to get any job done so why do we have more and actually "rotate" between them?
Because we can and it's fun. Big Grin
