I thought I would give reviewing a try. I won't post stats because you can look at those any time you feel like it and lets be honest some of us got the model numbers and stats memorised. I will instead put down my feelings from this one week of carry. From the box this knife was razor sharp and I couldn't find anything wrong with it. This was another example of BM doing what they do best. First impressions I thought the handle felt thick and bulky. My 814sbt that I was carrying for the past several months has served me very well and I couldn't help but compare the two. Even though this was a different knife I still didn't like it at first. I tried to replace the old painted pocket clip to a split arrow to slim down the thickness of the handle but this proved difficult. The scales where the screws are attached are angled up. When mounting the arrow clip it would stick out a quarter of an inch from the scales. I know you should bend the clip out to protect from the scales from eating your pocket but a quarter inch is a little ridiculous. I eventually decided that bending the arrow clip to fit was too much work. After about an hour with the 525 I got used to the slightly thicker handle. The axis lock helped a lot with this because of its addicting nature of opening and closing. The lock was smooth from the start and required no lube. I found myself not even putting the 525 back into my pocket because I was playing with it so much. My medium sized hand has no problem holding onto the handle. All four fingers fit comfortably and securely. PS FOR PICS GO TO MY LINK AND CLICK ON THE GALLERY WITH THE 525 www.dmh808.multiply.comThis message has been edited. Day two After waking up and getting ready I had to walk the dog. This gave me the perfect opportunity to see how the 525 carried. I couldn't even tell it was in my pocket. The low riding clip placement felt very comfortable. After looking for a 806BK-901 on the web I decided to see if the 525 was up to do some work. SEE 1ST AND 2ND PIC I decided to first try it out on some cardboard. It performed well cutting cleany through with little effort at first. It started taking a little more work and a push and pull cut to cut the long strips in the 3rd pic. The cardboard I was using scrap so it had things like tape, glue, and stickers on it. I wanted to know it this was causing the need for my extra work while cutting, so I washed the blade off with the garden hose and rubbed the left over residue off with my shirt. After this slight cleaning I went back to cutting. It turn out I was right. The adhesives were the cause for the extra work because after the cleaning the knife sliced through the cardboard like new. continued I was impressed enough to continue my test with cutting an old weathered broom handle. It cleanly cut long slivers off and I was able to feel how this knife handled under hard use. There was no blade play that I could feel. The thick handle dispersed the pressure across a wide area of my hand with no hot spots. The handles texture gave me great control without digging in painfuly. I was able to feather a small part of the broom stick so it can work as an outdoor folder well. SEE PICS 5 AND 6 Pretending to be survivor man I decided to try and quickly make a clothespin. SEE PICS 7, 8 AND 9 I started out splitting a stick with my Strider fixed blade. With the 525 I easily flattened out the two inner sections of the split stick so that they would fit together better. I then found a stick smaller in diameter and placed it between the two halves. I looped the rope tying all three together. Shoving a third stick between the two halves provides the resistance to keep the other side clamped. (sorry about this. its hard to explain. look at the pics) It worked well enough to hold up the 3.7oz 525. After I was hungry, so again washing the blade with the hose and making the 525 "guy clean". I made myself a PBJ. SEE PIC 10 All that was left to do was clean up. SEE LAST PIC ------------------------------------ We need a 615 LE with carbon fiber scales. Another thing I noticed is that the 525s liners are coated. I know they are made of 420J but I have experienced the liners on one of my 710s having surface rust. I think that coating the liners is a nice improvement. IMO it makes the knife look better. ------------------------------------ We need a 615 LE with carbon fiber scales. Very good review. I have begun to prefer my 525S to my 520SBK. It's a great "little" knife as you have stated, and it doesn't create as much pocket wear as my 520. | ||

Thanks guys. I just noticed that when reaching into my pocket that the 525 does not get into the way or scrape up my hand. This might sound like nothing except when you are at the cash register and look for change or clean out your pocket garbage when you get home. ------------------------------------ We need a 615 LE with carbon fiber scales.
