I once drove across town to a Harley Davidson shop ...I was going for the 13300 or the 13310.
They had no knives in the store either and where listed as local BM dealer. I heard y'all.."Call First" lesson learned.

I have a store across the street that was a dealer. They have a small selection of BM.
and four counters 5 ft long of others Like SOG, CRKT, BUCK, Smith and Wesson, other stuff.
I was told they will meet an internet price from time to time....I have not tried.
They are less than MSRP...but, I tend to just deal with folks on here. I feel better about the transaction. I am also usually buying disco'ed knives anyway. Or LE's they Normally wouldn't have.
They are polite... and I am sure people have wasted their time before looking at everything under the sun then walking away not buying anything. Just saying I felt like I needed to know what I wanted when I asked to see something and Have money in my pocket. They where very polite.

I did buy one 745SBK from them at a nice price, ended up not caring to much for the liner lock or the serrations. The guy I gifted it to was floored and loves the thing to death. It is his first BENCHMADE and 1st REAL knife.

after I posted...I did a dealer search and I am now farther than 50 miles to the nearest BM Dealer.

Man, I'm excited now! That store I complained about a few weeks ago in my first post is no longer listed as a dealer. The great local boomstick shop the next town over (70 miles from me) is now a Benchmade dealer! I just called them and confirmed. They said they've got 8 models currently, sounds like Grips and Ultra Presidios right now, but I'm really looking forward to heading up there and buying one from them as a show of support. Spectacular!

In my mind, it don't make em that bad. My big thing, among all else, is what kind of service do they provide. Insofar as good, reasonable service, following up with customers, and also taking care of said customers, in a timely manner. And keeping said customers in the loop so far as communication goes.

Nice to see you over here Jon...

One thing I do is call the dealer and ask if they have anything in stock. Some places like my local Harley dealer say they have an item or two in stock, but rarely do when I go there...they prefer to order the knives 'as needed' to save money.

To me, the search is worth the research. I have another shop locally that ALWAYS has stock and a number of older models in the mix.

I will buy things from him even if he doesn't come down much more than 10% because I can go there and spend all morning if I'd like to.

You (we) just have to look, and I like to mix local purchases with online, esp. when I'm looking for something special...it IS nice to hold the knife in-hand before buying it...might not save a lot of money, but it does save a lot of time and effort on the other side.

I'm happy. The store I was excited about had a knife I've been wanting to handle. I am now the owner of a 860SBK and a 553SBK, a Tuf-cloth, and a couple boxes each of Winchester Ranger ammo in 9mm, 40S&W, and .45ACP Smiler. They got $23 more than I've seen 860's for online, but I wanted to support the local folks Big Grin
