So I recently started fancying the 806 and decided to pick a couple up. I bought two that will get put into the safe for my kids when I die (Not to sound morbid, but I'd rather leave them a knife collection than a stamp collection), but I also bought one to carry around. I have three of the blades now, so I think I should put my impressions of the blade on the forums just for a data point.
I've been carrying blades for a long time now, and I feel like I can spot a nice blade when I get my grubbly paws on it, and the 806 is a good blade. It locks up solid and the serrated one I got (I bought two plain edge and one combo edge) is the smoothest axis lock I've ever used seconded by my 610. I was VERY impressed with the lightness of a flick it takes to deploy the blade using the axis lock. I've never been a fan of deployment holes before, but the 806 might just change my mind. Maybe it's because the only DH knives I've owned were spyderco lockbacks and I honestly dont care for lockbacks (I find they make deployment sluggish and require too much wrist for actuation). The 806 with the Axis lock is a true testament to how a quality lock mechanism can change the dynamics of a blade deployment. The blade length is perfect for me. NC has a 4 inch limit on carry blades, and the 806 is 3.96 inches. All three of mine are M4 steel. I honestly have never owned a blade in M4 steel or used one heavily, so I'm really interested in seeing how well it holds up. I loved my recently gifted 960 in D2 and my 710 in D2, and so I think I prefer tool steels for knives. They wear well and hold a great edge, and I havent noticed any need for a dramatic increase in maintenance. Weight is excellent and the blade rides in the pocket well. 4 corners mounting is great for me as I'm an ambi. The only turnoff is the price. 25-240$ is considered reasonable for these blades, which I think is ridiculous, but they ARE a very special blade so I'm willing to take that hit. If you can stomach the price, I say get an 806 901. They're great blades, can't go wrong. -Dingo- (\_/) (x.X) (> <) Zombunneh Catch me on YouTube: www.youtube.com/PRSPl4yer Check out my Blog: WillMoonCustomKnives.blogspot.com Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #12800 |

It's good to hear that you're enjoying your 806-901.
You're going to have to let us know how the steel performs for you. |

Gotta love the 806. This is a beautiful blade. I have yet to find a problem with it. Got into this knife because of the astetics and happened to be at the time of the release of the 806-901 m4 model. I love the designe. The weight. The action. Theis is just an all around beautiful peice. Form, function, I can not think of any other blade that I would rather E.D.C.. I have manny other knives that I have carried on a regular basis (hard use, on a daliy basis). I use my knives. I can not think of any others that I would rather E.D.C.. The action is great. The weight is perfect. The steel holds up to the abuse. Gotta love it! I would love to pick up all of the other configurations as well, if only I had the funds that some others seem to have! Alas I am but a poor blue collar workin stiff! Still, grateful to have what I do. Gotta go with the grain 806 is rock solid! I would rather carry it than any other knife I own.

They rock...
But then again, I might be a bit biased about that. ----------------- Current President Brotherhood of the 420 & Viceroy of the Knights of the Gravitator. SPTA Founding Member. Allen Elishewitz Preservation Society Founding Member #5. Lum Lunatics First Mate. |

Yeah, they are pretty sweet. I'm two weeks into working in my new serrated model and it's been great. Haven't used it for anything serious yet tho I did have to help a fellow student cut down some of his personal effects that some of his buddies had duct taped to a billboard when he was drunk last night.
Other than that, my 806 is pretty virgin. Rockin' blade tho, I love the looks of the thing and man it is a quick deploying blade. The Axis lock on mine is epically quick. If you pull it down and give it the most minor of flicks it'll come right out and lock up. -Dingo- (\_/) (x.X) (> <) Zombunneh Catch me on YouTube: www.youtube.com/PRSPl4yer Check out my Blog: WillMoonCustomKnives.blogspot.com Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #12800 |

I purchased an 806 in d2 recently with a pe and the oval hole. I must say I like this model just as much as the m4 version. The oval hole is imo better than the round hole and for some reason it seems as if the d2 holds an edge longer than the m4. However it seems like the m4 gets sharper than the d2. I do like the way the 806-901 is all black, hardware, axis lock, and liners as opposed to the stainless on the older d2 model. All in all both are great knives. I think that the d2 will be mainly a work/edc knife and the m4 I will carry less often. At night and when I go out as it won't get as much abuse that way. I love both styles just hope I don't have any more "mishaps" and less carry time= less chance of messin up that beautiful m4 blade!

Eh, M4 steel is meant to be abused. The 806 901 has been treating me really well. I especially love the tip of the blade. Has an amazingly nice sharp point that's as good for digging out splinters as it is for cutting boxes. I took a part time job working at one of the science labs here at my school and every other day I have to unload packages and unwrap stuff. The 806 has been great cutting open that heavy pallet wrapping tape and getting card board boxes open.
Actually, none of my AFCK's came as sharp as I'd like them to be. The sharpest knife I've ever gotten from Benchmade was my 610. Maybe that's a function of the 610 being S30V instead of a carbon steel, but the M4 at least had a decent edge on it. For really serious cutting tasks, I always use my Rukus, but I love the 806 for its portability and size. It's half the weight of the 610 but gets you a blade that's almost the same length. -Dingo- (\_/) (x.X) (> <) Zombunneh Catch me on YouTube: www.youtube.com/PRSPl4yer Check out my Blog: WillMoonCustomKnives.blogspot.com Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #12800 |
