I've probably sharpened about 10 knives on the wheels now. The grit wheel seems to have lost its bite. How often should I plan on resurfacing the grit wheel?

I've done few dozen knives already and it's still going strong. Your problem could be one of the following:
1. Not enough wax is applied and the grit wears off too fast.
2. Too much wax and not enough pressure.

When there's enough wax you shouldn't see any sparks, unless it's a carbon blade, but even then there shouldn't be too much sparking.

I've really found a great use for the slotted paper wheel. Since it acts kind of like a power strop, if I get a blade that catches when cutting paper and a simple trip to the strop doesn't fix it, I just put it on the paper (slotted) wheel for two or three passes per side and its usually gtg. I've done this with some of my best Benchmade and Spyderco EDC's with great success.

I tried it on my S90V Manix 2 and it was a battle to see which would win....the blade or the wheel. The wheel finally won and took the S90V to a whole new level of laser sharpness.

Anyway, that's my report. Smiler
