I bought my first Spyderco last week - a Military in S90V. Overall I'd say it's a nice knife but I'll take a 710 or 806 any day. The flat grind blade is a great slicer but the lock is stiff, harder to use one handed, and just not nearly as nice as an axis. The swell in the middle of the grip just doesn't fit my hand the way the 710 does either. I carried it for a few days as I do w/ all my new knives but I always seem to be grabbing a Benchmade now. This was my first trip outside the Benchmade waters for a premium knife and it makes me glad I got pointed at Benchmade first. It might be nice to get a 710 in S90V though...

ps: Does anyone else find it odd that the BM forum reports "Benchmade" as misspelled?

pps: I did also buy (but haven't received) a Spyderco Mule in S90V to put some custom scales on as well - looks like a very cool little fixed blade.

A little eye candy...

I am pretty much the exact opposite of what you said, I own several 710's and nearly every variation of the military. I am a big guy and have pretty large hands, I prefer the way the military feels in hand over the 710. I do think the handle on the military is a bit bulky in places though. The liner lock on the military you have will loosen up a little if you use it, thats been my experience. I still prefer a liner lock to the axis lock at this point and I really like frame locks over both. The new Ti Military framelock should be interesting and I am eagerly awaiting it.

I am a huge fan of the original AFCK with a liner lock, its kind of the best of both worlds for me. The main thing I like about the military and the AFCK are the opening holes, I just always prefer the hole to a thumbstud. Both the 710 and the military are great folders and both have high and low points for me.

I've owned a couple of Millie's and think highly of 'em. Both were flawless and rock solid in construction. One was CPM-D2, the other S30V, and they were scary sharp right out of box. IMO Spydie's locking-liners are as good or better than most Benchmades and if given a choice would probably take one of these over an Axis-based 806. Maybe not over an earlier 800 series though...I had an 804 and it was great!

And on a 710, I'd take in another anytime, esp. the older ones.

BTW - congrats on getting one of the Mules. They are great little knives.

I owned a few spydercos and sold them for this reason. I loved the feel of the knife, but I am a big one handed-flip closed guy and couldn't go back to the more traditional method of closing the blade.

Thank being said the new manix 2 looks like it may be kinda cool, I will probs have to give that a try.

I changed my post a little since I cant remember where I saw the actual post, some of the threads are from Bladeforums.

I also don't like lockbacks, the police 3 is a great knife but everytime I use it I cant get over the lockback. Its similar to the ergos of the early afcks with a linerlocks but the lockback kills it for me. Anyway I dont want to upset anyone so thats enough talk about the other companies from me! Big Grin
