The BC I have, #15020-1, is handsome in it's scupted/ribcage green & black layered G10. Very similar to the #950 Rift and it's two-tone G10. The Bone Collector has a thicker handle, .735" vs .560" for the 950 - and it's back is enclosed vs the open back of the Rift. The blade on the Rift is longer, 3.67" vs the 3.36", but thinner, .114" vs .125", and has thumb studs vs the BC's thumb hole. It's steel is 154CM while the BC's is D2. The BC's handle has thumb jimping on it's slightly ramped end before the blade - the more shallow plain ramp on the Rift is almost too minimalist.

The BC has a flat spine and a 'rounded' reverse Tanto leading to the point, while the Rift has a reduced spine and flat reverse Tanto. The Rift has the Osborne symbol - the BC has the BC's skull. It is heavier - 5.6 oz vs 4.8 oz for the Rift.

So many similarities - why did I buy a Rift after I had owned the BC for a while? I blame it on this site - and all of the Rift hype. Who am I kidding? I am an incurable knife-slut. My grandsons' first phrase, "I want... I want...", came to them through the gene pool. On paper, they are similar - in the hand, different enough to have both.

The BC is a lot easier on pockets than the stock 520/525.

And Traveller, them's are some good comparison shots, and these are two VERY different knives, true.

Thx again Smiler
Looking at the 520 I can see how it would devestate a pocket real quick-like Eeker No, the BC's "fat" as heck but relatively smooth.
Funny enough, my Alu. 943, with it's rather grippy sand-blasted / matte finish is the most difficult of my knives. All G10s - no matter how "sculpted" or grid-like the finish, are all reasonable.

I still see too many similarities. It's easier when the pair you have are both uncoated PE knives. There is a definite heel to the 'defensive' tack in the black coated Rift. As to pocket wear, they are similar in that regard - probably slight at most. In my use as a utility EDC, they would be very similarly employed - with the lead going to the thicker gripped/bladed BC.

I guess my bias is showing here - I don't consider a knife as a weapon - just a tool. The only time I ever had to 'slash' was when I found myself bound up in brambles - and near a yellow jacket's nest. No stings that time - but 28 stings when it happened in my youth... and my BS knife was dull! This is Alabama - we have CC here - I always have something louder - and with more reach - for protection.

Traveller, I had the Rift by the time of your KF post. If I had seen that comparison first, I might have skipped that model. Naw, who am i kidding... I am an incurable knife-slut! I like the BC better - but I like the Rift, too. In my case, the Rift, however, will be on the block long before the BC. It's good to have so many choices!
