Here is my little mini review:

I have carried this non stop for two days now. I wear khakis for work and shorts after. This knife is great in both. The clip keeps the knife from slapping you in the leg all day. The other big knife I compare to this is the Rukus. On the converse I found that the rukus' clip and the length of the handle made it tought to pack in looser type clothing. The weight of the 741 is a lot lighter IMHO then the rukus in the pocket too. The 741's G-10 is smooth yet have a nice amount of grip. I like it because when I put my hand in my pocket with that large of a knife I don't want the feeling of abrasion. The blade on this knife is like a laser out of the box. It was a little on the loose side, but after a little tweaking I have it with no blade play, and can be flicked with the thumb to the open position. I absolutely love the black nickel plated hardware, and the crowned spine (crowned only at the swedge). These are great little additives that make this knife so special for the money. After cutting with this knife I am a believer in Full Flat Grinds. I never abuse my knives or even cut hardcore stuff with them so the thinness of the blade and tip strength are a non issue with me. The full flat grind just cuts like a mother.

My only complain with this knife is the back spacer. The back spacer is cheep. You can see the mold lines in the plastic. I will be replacing this with barrel spacers. This of course does not detract from the usefullness of the knife.

Here are a couple of comparo pics for you.

Today I've joined the 741 club...just got the thing in the mail and have been playing with it for an hour.

First glance was "Holy Crikey" it's big, but at the same time it fits easily in my pocket and the G-10 scales not only deliver a good grip, but the thing's well balanced and very comfortable to hold.

Anyone else have a comment on how thin the blade is? Maybe BM did that and added cutouts on the inside of the liners to save on weight...but a crow bar this isn't meant to be...it sure slices well.

The black hardware's good looking, clip very effective and easy on the pocket, but here's the surprise...

...why did BM make the blade on this in 154cm if the 740/745 Deja's are in S30V?

Right now the thing's a little stiff, I will run it through a bunch of cycles.

...Joe

I bought myself an Onslaught last week and am very impressed. Very nice ergos, super smooth Axis lock and of course a 4.28"'blade with a nice thin grind that slices great. It is one of the few knives I have bought and didn't immediately think it needed a Krein regrind (I have about 15 Krein grinds). That is a good thing since Tom isn't doing regrinds anymore. I telephoned the edge thinner and polished it out to .05 microns and it got nicely sharp, beyond hair whittling sharp. The steel was nice and crisp, pretty close to my 154CM Rift which tested at 61RC. For the price from Roger it is quite the bargain for a large folder that carries smaller than it seems it should and outslices much smaller knives with it's excellent edge/blade geometry.

This is next on my list. I loved the 740, and this is bigger and badder! (and it has an AXIS lock)

OK, I'm usually not in the habit of resurrecting the dead.....But I've got one on the way (got a smokin deal too on it) Wink.....I guess I'm a little slow, what can I say ??? Big Grin. But it will have been my first new BM in quite some time. I am looking foward to it. I guess I'll have to stack it up with my Rukus, and do some compare/contrasting with it (the Rukus is one of my gold standards so far as big azz folders go). I will also throw another wild card into the mix. I nabbed one of those Spydie Chinooks the other day (btw, if you wanna get one of those, better hurry, cause they are on the extinction list Wink ). But thus far, the Chinook hasn't left my pocket (and I'm really slow on that one too, since it's been out for years Wink ). But it is a hoss, that's for sure.....I guess I'm back on my "big folder" kick again Wink.

Should be here sometime this coming week Smiler

Congrats Sabu! I hope you like the Onslaught. Back on the big folder kick, huh? Great, because as someone on the forum said..."We don't go for no sissy-girl knives around here."

Oh, wait, we got that line from you a few years back. Big Grin
