Hi all, just got my 760, great combo of Ti and M4. Nice heft and overall design. I am slightly disappointed my the amount of blade play in the open position and upon closing, the blade is not centered. Tightening the screw reduces blade play and centers the blade but of course makes opening and closing difficult. There is a sweet spot where blade play is minimal (although slightly present) and the blade is centered and opening and closing is great, but the screw seems to loosen quickly.
Two questions, do any other 760 owners have the problems of blade play and centering? If so, have you solved it? How? Would loc-tite keep me in that sweet spot. Any help appreciated.

Although loc-tite will help your pivot screw stay put, I'm usually too impatient to wait 12 hours for it to dry. Over the years I have switched to teflon tape. If you're not familiar with it, it is also generically called "thread seal tape" and you can get it at any hardware store either in the plumbing section or where they sell lawn sprinkler heads. I usually cut off about a 1" length of the 1/2" wide tape, wrap it around the pivot screw threads then re-insert and tighten the screw to the "sweet spot" you mentioned. The tape will provide additional friction that keeps the pivot screw in place. If it doesn't...then try a little longer piece.

As far as blade play goes, my 760 has some blade play if I push back the frame lock in the open position, but once I let go of the frame lock everything tightens up great.

One unusual thing about the 760 is that it is very easy to open this knife without using the thumb stud. Just flip your wrist and that massive blade will fly open smoother than any other knife I own. Smiler

Thanks fj, that's a great suggestion. I know exactly the tape your talking about. Seems a better solution than loc-tite too.

Oh, BTW, I think one reason the 760 tends to have a little more blade play is that if you look, you'll notice that it has very tiny washers which wouldn't provide much side-to-side stability of the blade. I'm sure these little washers were needed because a normal sized washer would interfere with the frame lock.

If it was a bad blade play problem, I suppose a guy could install a regular sized washer on the non-framelock side of the knife. That ought to provide a little more stability. Personally, I just ignore it....either way, I love this knife!

That's an interesting point as well. would those washers come from benchmade or does a hardware store probably carry them?
It's true though, either way I do enjoy this blade. Lightning quick opening!

Same problem with mine. I'll take mine back and trade to see if I can get a solid one. If not, I'll go with a 610.

Measure the ID of the washers, get new ones with same ID and larger OD, apply to wet wet/dry sand paper on a flat surface (glass) and grind to appropriate thickness.

I say this because I'm a penny pincher and knifekits shipping was expensive.

I also discovered once by complete accident that a small amount of super glue will hold a washer in place, a round file for a couple bucks and you can shape the washer and hold it in place.

I'd strongly recommend filing the washer before sanding.

Took back mine to Blade HQ. Tom was more than happy to send it back to benchmade. I said not a problem on the shipping time, and told him I've never used the knife. Tom looked at the knife and exchanged it for a new one. We tested it out, no blade play. Blade HQ has been my absolute best experience.
