I like the convenience a folder provides when hiking and camping combined with a good fixed blade or axe. There are many great folders out there from a good old slipjoint to a custom reaching $1000+. All good and have their place IMO for us knife addicts. There is one reason I like the Axis lock specifically as a back up knife when hunting, camping etc.

If the omega springs would go, the lock is not rendered useless unlike many others locks that if their spring would break, come loose or what have you. Here is what I mean:

I should say that this is just an idea I came up with. The omega springs on the Grip is still fine after 3 years of use. This is just a back up for that just in case it would happen. In the bush or where ever remote...**** does happen unexpectedly.

Good idea...I didnt think of that. How do you like your 550 blade for your hunting skinning chores?

I have had no issues with it. A bit large if you want to work against the spine, but I have other knives to cover that. Of course just like any lock if the blood gets dry it does get a bit sticky.

I have a Bone Collector that should arrive very shortly. I want to try D2. 154 CM is a great steel and it has served me well, but one has to try new things.

Hunting here is great, the Safari hunting experience is going to be expensive and only a few do the 'what you see in the movies' approach, other hunting farms take a different approach where you cater for yourself, they provide shelter and water but the rest is up to you. Those I enjoy because it makes you appreciate the beauty and hardness of it all that much more. Its pretty much the same as the approach taken on the hunting shows on ESPN I have seen. But there is a lot more to pick from then just white tail or mountain goat (sorry, but those are permanently hunted on the shows so I can be wrong!)

Thanks for all the comments guys!
