that's quite easy, but difficult to explain with my poor english ... just unscreew all parts and you can reach the broken spring. i know that's not a great help, but believe me, there nothing difficult: just use the good torx' screwdrivers

That’s really all there is to it.

You just have to start unscrewing the pivot, scales, liners etc. Slowly and use a few small containers to put the screws in as you take them off. I use shot glasses (I have a lot of them Roll Eyes ). One shot glass for each layer of knife. Sounds funny but folders are like sandwiches. They all have layers.

Look at the size of the screws as you take them off. If you see different sizes while dissembling then take note of that.

You will need a size 10, 8, 6 Torx Screwdrivers.
Slowly and firmly unscrew each one. These are small screws and easy to strip.
Sooo Use Caution.

Good idea, Pascal. I might like the 580 better as a non-A/O. If the spring breaks that's what I'll do.

I love my 585. I've used it as an EDC for everyday ranch work and it has held up well. Only gripes is that the safety and the Axis lock are a major catch for dust and the like.

It's been several months since I've seen any comments on problems with the springs so I finally ordered a 580. While certainly no extensive test, it did function properly for quite a few openings. Seems well made and solid and it opens with authority and locks up solidly. There did seem a bit of "grittiness" with the spring, which probably would have gone away with time.
Can't really do more testing because I decided to return it. I was not totally pleased with the blade finish, and while overall it seems a very nice knife there is just something about it I'm not quite happy with. Gonna swap it for RIFT with the Carbon Fiber slabs (plus some cash of course).
Don't get me wrong, the 580 was basically fine, and normally I would have kept it and most likely enjoyed it, but it turns out I'm going to have to return a 525-81 GOLD that seems to have missed the bronzing step. As long as I was going thru the hassle of returning one I decided to swap the 580.

I may pick up a 585 later, the smaller size may be more to my liking.

Well, the 585 from the pass around is working very well after having several people put it through its paces. No spring breakage at all.

I do wonder though: can I take the AO spring out and make it a regular Axis lock? The reason I ask is I may have to move to a city that has chosen to ban AO knives, and my only options will be to turn this 585 into a regular Axis lock knife, or sell it to get a Rift/mini-Rukus/Ritter Grip.
