Welcome Rotts4u,

Congrats on getting ahold of the 585/580's. Great knives, very smooth openers considering they're not autos.

Enjoy!

Welcome rotts4u!

I've had my 585 for quite a while, ever since the initial release. No problems so far, and I've opened this thing a bazillion times.

I just got my 585 today and I love the thing.

It's the perfect size and blade shape for EDC and I love the snap and lock up of the knife.

I would carry it like everyday, but it's any "spring blade knife" (including assisted opening) is illegal in my state it turns out.

But it's going to be great around the house still.

Newcollector09, what state are you in? I'm guessing Washington, since it would be weird if spring blade knives were illegal in Benchmade's home state.

If we're talking Washington State, does the law only cover Seattle, or the entire state? I've heard Seattle is pretty strict.

It's part of the state law.

In Oregon citizens can even carry automatic knives I think.

Hey Guys, I was just letting you know that these spring issues aren't resolved yet.

I won't go through the whole back story, but I have had two different 580's fail on me. I am now about to have to send in this latest 580 to benchmade for the THIRD time.

I can't speak for the 585s, but I can tell you that the 580s are to be avoided at all cost. The failure rate makes them expensive TOYS, not TOOLS.

It has failed on me so many times now, I hate to handle it. I just can't get over the feeling that it is going to break at any moment, and that is not how a knife should be.

I just bought my 580SBK over Christmas and was wondering if anyone else has an issue with the blade poking out. It does not recoil back like my Griptilian does. Both are equipt with the axis lock. Is this normal or should I send this in? BTW 580 is 0776/1000 first production.

Are you saying that the tip of the blade is exposed when the knife is closed? If so, it's not normal and it needs to be returned to the store or sent to Benchmade.

A possible cause is if the pivot is too tight and is not allowing the knife to close fully.

Agreed...there's not much that can be adjusted by us to fix that. If you got it from a dealer call 'em and let them know the problem, and if that doesn't work call Benchmade at 800-800-7427 and ask for Customer Service. You might not have to pay a dime for shipping OR return costs depending on what they say.

Good luck!
