Thanks for the info on the Nagara, I was looking into one as well....

I'm also looking to get a Sharpmaker sometime soon... Never used one before, does it work well on all steels or is it better on some than others?

The Sharpmaker works well in maintaining the edges on knives. If you let a knife get too dull and try to sharpen it with the Sharpmaker, you will be working on the cermaic rods for a a long time. The only steels that I've worked with on my Sharpmaker are D2 and 154CM. I have found that it is easier to sharpen and maintain 154CM than D2 on the ceramic rods.

So if you do get a Sharpmaker, use it more frequently to reduce the amount of time in one sitting that you'll be working on it.

Back again Boys, I now have 154 and 440 knives. Was out on outback fishing trip to Canada last week. Brought 2 knives with me . I worked them hard. Each are dull as hell. I have been working them on the sharpmaker, they are not getting back to that wicked sharp. Is their a better system I should use to sharpen my knives? Please give me your suggestions. Thanks Kip

The Sharpmaker will get it done. Just make sure you keep the rods clean, they will "gum" up pretty quick. And make sure you get the edge set before moving on to the fine rods.
