Thanks for the recommend kj. It has been a long time since I've handled a Para-Military...the only drawback for me would be that the knife only comes in PE or fully serrated...no comboedge... Frowner

The 740 is a Lexus, smooth as silk - every part! Now the Miltary, that's the one I use...since it's not a BM, I really don't care if it gets scuffed & dinged. It's a solid user.

I know this is a review (a great one at that) and not a debate but here are my thoughts...

1. The debate between a BM and Spyderco begins and ends with the axis lock.

2. If I were blind, the task would be much harder deciding, but since I can see, the Spydie's all look goofy to me.

Great review, I might trade a die hard spydie friends Military to see what all the fuss is about.

Drew

I agree, they are completely differant to me, shape, ergos and many other things. The only real similarites IMO are materials and size, not sure why people are always comparing the two.

I think it is because they are both in production and considered to be each companies "flagship" model... the 80x series is not a regular production piece anymore. I think it is a fair comparison given the circumstances.

Just echoing what others have said I've owned both Millies and 710's and both are completely different in look and design...maybe similar in length and thickness (or thinness) is all.

Of all the Spydies I'd tried and owned the Millie continues to be my favorite. It's got one of the best designed locking liners on the market and despite it's size is very comfortable to use and makes for an easy carry.

Between the two, I prefer my 710's.

The Axis lock is light years ahead of the wimpy liner lock of the Spyderco Military. The only plus about the military is the blade material, THATS IT.
