Both are good knives but the Military seems to be "better" than the 710 only in the handle scales "grippyness" department (but not in handle toughness). If that extra grip is worth $55 to you, then go for it. Way I see it from the posts put up so far, and they're all pretty subjective: Benchmade 710 - Stronger lock, tougher blade tip, stronger handle, lower price point. Spyderco Military - "Higher Speed" blade steel, superior ergonomics, better grip with the handle scales.

I agree that liner-locks are an issue - even my fave 800 recently had an non-intentional unlocking incident. But you should try one of the current production Military models, since they are stiffer overall than the first couple of generations. I call the first couple of generation Military models "flexi-fliers".

First rule of folding knives: Folders, will. Agree with the comment above. Other makers have done similar. Note the increase in the thickeness of the lockbar on EE's knives. 710BT | 710HS | 710HSSR | 710-801 | 710-1 | 710DLC-1 | 705 | 705BT | 805-1101 | 806BK-901 | 950-801 | 950BK-1001 | 552M2 | 552DLCM4-500 | 556-1201S | 558M2 | 558DLCM4-500 | 940S-701 | 960BK-801 | 530-901 | 585S-1101 | 12800BK-801 | 425 | 630-400 | 635 | 180 | 210BK-1001 | 210TK | 211 | 710T | 550T | 551T | 814T | 245 | waiting: 730-1202 \

The Ti Millie has changed my opinion. I still got love for the 710. All the Millie needed was a better lock than it already had. Boomerangs 'n Butterflies: An Osborne Alliance | Member #3
