If I based my sole affinity for Benchmades on the edge, I would have defected long ago. Fortunately, I recognize the quality of the rest of the knife and won't go anywhere. I just want Benchmade to be the best in all respects, and their edge quality isn't.

I've only had one that was dull, but it was dull. I've only had one that was scary sharp out of the box (my 710sbt from 1999). The others have been sharp, but not "extremely sharp" as they advertise.

This debate could go on forever.

Is there a sharpness scale?

What may be considered sharp to someone, might seem dull to another. It's clear we all have our opinion as to what, "sharp" is.

+100%

Guys, who mentioned unsharp can just say take some course "how sharpening your knife"

Laser, it's not that people can't sharpen their own knives.. they want them to come sharp from the factory like EVERY OTHER MAJOR MANUFACTURER seems to be capable of. I love Benchmades and wouldn't trade them for any other, but I have at least a handful of friends who've passed them up because Kershaw ships their knives with a sharp factory edge. For whatever reason, that's the part that matters to a significant portion of people out there.

Probably not us so much because many here, while we use knives of course, are primarily collectors or enthusiasts at the least. The people I'm talking about who pass up based on sharpness only get, carry and have a single knife at a time.

Carson, nothing in this life is perfect or for ever, not even sharpest Kershaw.
Old Russian folks speech say "if you like to drive your snow-ski,you have to like to pull them"
I just confirm what DB say, anyone have own meaning about sharpness.
