Yes. Especially on the BT and BK coated blades, and the one I bought at this place that was damaged they wouldn't honor the return of it.

Worse yet, they have the knives displayed under the main register counter so you really can't take the time to look at them.

This is a classic "how to not please your local Benchmade collector" place...no names, not necessary.

Good luck with that. Unless you know someplace I don't. Lived here most my life.

Was hoping you'd bring me something special from CA Smiler

Blame it on the beer, but I don't understand the "no names" part of your post.

Streetmaster wrote...I don't know why they changed the blade pattern on the 580, I don't like it at all.
I know it all boils down to a matter of personal taste, but personally, I really like the 580 blade shape. Maybe yours will grow on you, like mine did me.

Oh, I got it...I just didn't want to "name" (or recommend) that particular dealer! Roll Eyes

I have to say that the Barrage is simply the apex of assisted opening design. As a matter of fact, when I pick up my 912, I feel like I need to be Hercules to open it now!!!

The 580 fires HARD, and frankly is so good it might even be "better" than an auto. The 585 does not fire as hard (blade weight) but is one handsome knife.

Now... Benchmade here is an idea.

Make this knife with G-10 handles and it might just become one of my top 5 favorite Benchmade's ever.

I agree with you Mark.

I recently received the 580 and must say I'm pleasantly surprised by this knife.
I would say it is a mix of 3 legends of the past,
the 941, 730 and the 780 where the idea comes from.
Altough the scales are "plastic" the ergo's are great and they have a good gripping.
But I agree they are better with G10 as the original 580 R&D knife had.
Now Micarta would also be great for this knife!
I had no issues with the spring so far.

Am trying to find a new BM.
Initially I blew this one off due to the plastic scales. But after having the 615-2 for a couple months am now considering it. (Like the assist)
So the longer 580 fires harder than the shorter 585? Wished I could warm up to the 580's dropped point blade.......
Maybe I am getting too picky?
Am leaning towards the 585........
Its really hard this year to find a new BM I really want......

S90v Please......

Hey again guys.

Just thought I would write an update about what is going on with my 580. The first one I bought , the spring broke after a week. I exchanged it, and that one lasted about 2 weeks before failure.

I sent it in to Benchmade to get it fixed. Before I start my rant, I should point out that the customer service people I have talked to so far have been very nice.

Anyway, they kept my knife for almost two full weeks working on it. When I got it back, the action was rough (like there was sand in the action somewhere), the spring made a clicking sound, and the body liner was deforming when the blade was closed to make room for the wound spring. About the 10th time I opened it to try to loosen it up, the spring broke again.

My knife should never have been returned in the condition that it was. Even I knew there was something wrong the first time I opened it.

I hope everyone else is having a better experience than I am. I bought mine locally, and with tax and shipping for repair, my 580 is turning into a VERY expensive paper weight.

I am waiting for Benchmade to open up so I can go through the whole returns process again. If you guys have any suggestions, I am more than open to them at this point?

(BTW I promise that I am not banging my 580 against a tractor or anything. I haven't even dropped it. The heaviest use it has seen is against a cardboard box.)
