Kind of along the same lines as this thread, one time I had to fly out to New Mexico, so no knives. I got there and felt naked, not even a regular folder for my pockets. I couldn't think straight, just kept coming up with things to use one for and thinking of reasons why I needed one. So I ended up getting a couple at Knives n Edges out in Las Cruces while I was out there. Though I had to fly back home, the rest of the family brought back the new knives for me to be reunited with.

Anyone else feel naked when they don't have a knife in/clipped onto their pocket or one on the belt?

Wow. No knives? You must have lost what 30 pounds of metal?

It is EST 5AM...I took a pretty strong pain killer and have been up all night...I am sitting here playing with an older 440C 556 Mini Grip but even in my pajamas, I still have my full sized 552 Ritter M2...just in case I need a large utility blade in my bed.

It is the most empty feeling.

It's not so much not having a knife that bothers me it is the constant checking for it.
Every time I stand up or move the first thing I do is make sure the Benchmade is in place.

Totally hear you there... I travel for work a fair amount, and always pack at least one EDC in the check bag - usually something easily and cheaply replaced like a Spyderco Native and/or Tasman Salt, or one of my CRKT's.

One tidbit for all: I have carried a Cold Steel Mini Koga and Surefire E2D with a red filter on to disguise the crenelations through security with ZERO questions in Austin, Chicago, Portland, London, Amsterdam, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and a few other places. Always goes through the xray machine in my backpack. Never once questioned.

Here is a couple pics of my EDC rotation. Not shown is my collection of Case stockmans that always find a place in a pocket.

Just don't have the knives clipped to your pajamas or the wife will have you committed. Wink Oh, if you're not married and want to be...refer to the same advice above. Cool

A big glass of water and my favorite EDC on the table next to the bed? My wife has the water too, but for her it's a book.

Can't tell you how many times recently I've gone for the knife instead of the water in the middle of the night.

Funny what brings a person comfort.

I hate flying now and not being able to carry my knife with me. I DO NOT feel safer now than I did pre-9/11 when I was able to carry a knife. The same is true for going to the courthouse. Basically, anywhere that I can't carry my knife makes me feel naked. I've only been carrying for about 35 of my 46 years, so for me it just come naturally that I have a knife in my pocket.

What is missed in the "no knife here" argument is the fact that a determined person can turn almost any item into a (deadly) weapon.

Here's my secret Eeker for traveling by air: Keep it slim and small.

Checked inside my suitcase, my 350 Pardue slips in a zippered side pocket of my black leather bathroom kit in a black satin Benchmade bag.

I've flown all over the country and it's always been there on my arrival...unless the suitcase doesn't show up, which has yet to happen.

Sure its not a 520 but it's good for most jobs AND disappears in the pocket.

I HATE not being able to carry a knife. Like donwald, whenever I get up from sitting down I always tap my pocket to make sure my knife is still there. I do the same thing whenever I leave a place.
