I was cleaning out the gunk on the inside of my Rift. I use a toothpick and a small cotton patch (2x2” aprox.) The patch snagged on the protruding part of the Omega. No big deal I just eased it out.

I then noticed that one Omega had the protrusion from that tiny hole sticking out just a hair and the other side did not protrude at all. I looked at a number of other AXIS knives and found either no protrusion or both springs with a bit. Grips-no, 940-yes and many other combos.

None had one innie and one outie, so to speak.
What do you guys know about this issue?

I think the small protrusion is normal. You may want to use some type of compressed air to do your cleaning in the future also Dry lubes attract less junk. A small brush works well too.

I noticed small protrusion on almost all my axis knives. Don't know that I ever saw an "innie and an outie" though. I wouldn't worry about it unless it feels like one side is broke which is why it's not sticking out a little. If that's the case, the tension should feel a little less on the bar than other axis knives. BM repair shop can fix that for you if that's the problem. Heck, if it bothers you i.e. you think there might be something wrong, send 'er in anyway and they can have a looksee. Wink

All I have on my is my 14210S. Looking at it, it has the "one innie, one outtie" that you speak of. Honestly, it doesn't bother me. I believe that I have seen the occurrence on other knives of mine. Nothing has happened to my omega springs as far as function thus far with the springs being placed that way.

Like Max said, if it bothers you or causes a problem, contact BM. They'll take care of it.

Just looked at my knives...most have a small protrusion but a couple of the springs do not...I think this is normal though and it never really bothered me.

I think as long as the little piece of the spring is in the hole the scales will keep the omega spring trapped in place regardless if there is a protrusion or not.

I've looked at a couple of my Axis equiped folders and about half of them have one side protruding very slightly. By very slightly, I mean about the thickness of a sheet of a paper.

Thanks for your answers everyone.

I was wondering what others knew about the Omega spring. Seeing that most of you have more knowledge with the issue and reading that many of you have taken apart knives with the AXIS lock, I knew that you would know if it was an issue or not.

Steve Harvey,
I was pleased when I saw your name. I know that you are one of the most knowledgeable and respected members of the cutlery community. I was disappointed when I saw your reply. I don’t understand it. Thanks anyway.

I just did a quick sampling of my Axis models and found only one with the barest of spring showing through that little hole, my 943. I don't consider that an issue at all and am not worried about it.

First time I saw the spring coming out more than that was sometime last year, but again, as said have not had a failure of any of my knife with regard to the spring, and if anything DID show up I'd have sent it up to Warranty for servicing.

Reminder we have real people building these knives, production or not - and the variations as a result can be many.
