Well, all the BEST Axis models are available in auto anyway, I think, the folding Presidios, and the Rift.

Hard to imagine life without a 707/705 or a 940/1 though...

Axis Assist is the coolest thing in the line. Needs to be on more knives...especially knives with G-10 or Aluminim handles. The 585 Mini Barrage is a great knife...even greater with G-10 scales.

Someone ought to try making a custom handles that covers the entire liner and see how that looks and feels.

The 940's & 943's (of which I've owned several) don't have full liners like the 930, and probably because of that, for the most part, Benchmade has gone with the anodized Aluminum handles (which don't need full liners) but they also don't have the durability of G-10. They did make a special run of a nice CF handle, but those are rare and so end up in collections instead of being used.

The 960 is too slick and at least the red ones scratch too easily to really turn my crank.

My suggestion would be to fix the 940 and 943 handles to a CNC milled G-10 and do it as a regular production item or a large LE run. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who loves the size and shape of these knives yet stays away because of the deficiencies in the handles.

Although surely some of the most popular models in the Benchmade lineup, with a few small fixes, these Osborne knives could be more popular than ever.

I could just say "ditto", and for the same reasons. Good post FJ!

Yeah, G-10 94X series would be fantastic.

I would really like to see the 940 or 43 with G10 handles. That would be sweet. A green and black like some of the 730 Ares models would be really nice. I debated on getting a 940 instead of the 930. The axis lock on the 930 is so smooth, but the 940 was even better....it was a little snappier. I was able to get this 930 20% off because there was a tiny chip on the edge of the blade. I couldn't pass it up, it was better than any on-line prices I found. It left the factory with a horrible edge.....that happens sometimes I guess. A few minutes on the stone and the blade is good as new and sharper than ever.

It can be done. (I still do want a white knife!)

Blasphemy FJ!!!! The 960 is one of the best! Small, compact, discrete, streamline, great ergos for such a small knife, and the blade, let me tell you, it is very usable considering the small size of the knife...Perhaps you just are not "gentlemen" enough for this gentleman's carry! Big Grin

Gotta watch out for us blasphemers Trevor! Wink

I recall looking at those custom scales on the 940's...and the backspacers look very close to those used on the Bone Collectors.

Thanks for the link!

The 960 is popular as a gents knife. All I was saying is that the ones I've been around were slick and the color scratched off. Smiler

Thanks for posting that link. I don't remember seeing those after-market handles before. Nice!!

A buddy of mine has a deer hunting guide business in South Dakota. Two years ago, they cleaned and skinned about 70 deer. He used a 960 on all of them. Cool I didn't get a report on last year, but at least you can see that the 960 is one tough customer. Too tough for most "gentlemen". Big Grin

Thanks Auto.

If BM has an auto version of an axis lock style (ie 9555)I will go with the auto, but some of these higher end axis locks like the 930 are awesome. I will definitely be adding some more to my collection such as a 940, 943, and a 730.

With my new job I needed a dressier knife that is a little lighter. The 930 fits the bill perfectly.
