I think that this knife just hit a massive hiccup in production cost. The earlier MSRP was $350 and now it's saying $500. Did M4 really get that that much more expensive?

Price did go up, I'm assuming they started making some and found the production cost to be higher than what was anticipated. Or they may have made some spec changes we don't know about (blade thickness, handle material, etc.) There wasn't much in the way of specs released in the first place so who knows what the design was when the original $350 retail was calculated.

I’m sort of glad that it’s going to be a while before it’s available because I have the 9555 in the pipeline then I want a 8600 plain edge- dang, this is an expensive hobby
