I noticed the early signs of corrosion on the blade of my 710-801 so gave it a gently rub with a worn out foam sanding pad (which is hardly abrasive at all) wetted with some Militec-1 oil. I was surprised to see the BK coating rubbing off.

The knife looked bad with the worn patch so I removed the rest of the coating from the whole blade - very easily.

I have other Benchmades with BT and BK coatings and none of them have come away like this.

How have you found the coating on your M4 710s?

I'll post some pics soon.

Yes anything abrasive will remove the black coating.

In other news water is wet.

Militec-1 sucks too.

Yes, I know that water is wet and that abrasives will damage coatings, but my point is that the foam pad was hardly abrasive. I have done the same thing to other coated blades with no effect to the coating.
The coating on my 710-801 was not applied properly. Who else has found this?

It looks good! I know your work puts you in salt-water conditions quite often. Please let us know how it holds up without the bulk of the coating.
