Whats the difference ........... Confused Tip up or Down ??
To me it dont make a difference , as long as I can open the knife eassily , depending on the design and the access of flipping it open somewhat.
If it has thumb studs , I find either way OK
If it has a hole openning in the blade , tip down is better for me.
Anyone care to put there two cents in here ? Tip up or down ....who cares ??

I much prefer tip up carry. It's what I'm used to so I don't have to think about anything - and the way I pull the knife out of the pocket my thumb is naturally falling close to the thumbstud. For tip down I have to flip the knife around with an extra motion, which bothers me.

Tip down for me, tip up scares me a little as I have heard a couple stories about blades opening in pockets. A blade facing your groin in a hard fall could be very bad in the wrong situation IMO. I also had a bad experience with a tip up knife when I was reaching into my pocket to get my truck keys. Blade was facing up and in toward my body and gave me a really nasty slice.

I try carry my knife in my left front jean pocket usually facing away from me, sometimes IWB. Big Grin

I prefer tip-up as well..

+1 to what GrandpaMike said, my thumb just naturally goes to the opening mechanism (thumb stub or hole) when pulling the knife out and I can open it quicker..

I find that I grab a tip-down knife with two fingers first (index and thumb actually) and pull it out, then I have to "spin" it until the spine is in my palm.. Its just an extra, unnecessary motion.

Having said that, if I like it enough I'll carry a tip-down knife no problems.. I've been carrying my 635 and love it Cool. But if I never really needed a knife that I had to open fast every time, I'd prefer a tip-up knife. Its like muscle memory, its just what I'm used to I suppose.

depending of the knife shape ... but i don't really care
imo, a quick deployement is not a priority: i've never been in a such situation i needed it and even if i had been , i don't think a tip up or tip down carrying 'd have change anything ...
i prefer an easy opening than a quick opening, so smoothness is more important than the clip position

I used to be all tip down, back in my "the S&W Swat knife is BA" days i.e. highschool. Once I hit the upper end production lines like BM and Spyderco I changed to a pref of tip up.

I've never had issues with this method and always carry it towards the back part of the front pocket. So that the blade is wedged in by the seam of my pants. Never had one deploy in the pocket that I can remember.

Now I'm pretty much all tip up for consistency sake.

It is not that big of a deal for me, but I prefer tip up. To me most tip up knives seem to ride a little deeper.

Tip up for me although, if I gave tip down an honest shake and took the time to get used to it, I'm sure it would work just fine.
