I am torn between the diamond and wetstone setup. What do you all think? Thanks Disabled US Army Combat Veteran

I have both, If you have a hard to sharpen steel: S90V, ZDP189, or something else with high hardness, the diamond is the way to go. If yoiu have S30V,154Cm, etc the regular stones work fine.

I own a lansky and have all the diamond stones extra course, course, medium, fine, then I added a regular medium, fine ,ultra fine, then the blue saphire. i added the normal hones cause someone in a thread in open topic on knife sharpeners said that the diamonds actually will cause micro serrations on the steels ie making them dull faster. So if a knife is extremely dull I work it with a extra couse to a course ,and medium diam., fine diam, to the medium hone ,fine, ultra fine to the blue saphire. If its not to bad I'll start with the fine diamonde move to the fine hone ultra fine to the blue saphire. thee blue realy puts a mirror finish on S30V I usually run 20 degrees on the S30V steel knives and a 25 or 30 on something like my HK 14205. I like to put a double bevel on my 14205 by sharpening each side with a 25 and 17 degree angel with the same stone. Flip to the otherside and do the same thing. Then move to the next stone down and repeat. pretty soon there are two gleaming polished edges.

I've had the Lansky system for many years. It may not be proclaimed as the best system, But it works great for all of my knives. A2,D2,M2,S30V,ATS34,etc. I haven't come upon a steel that I can't get razor sharp with the Lansky. The Diamond stones are the way to go. 581 / 710-1 / 15030-2 / 707BK / 525BK-1101 / 556BKODD2 / 552M2-600 / 558M2-600 / 552DLCM4-500 / 558DLCM4-500 / Axis Mouse

on new stones sometimes I've noticed impurities. Or something embeded in the stone that takes a few sharpenings to get past. Case and point my ultra fine had a little speck of something in it and I could feel it dinging the edge of my 610BK as I sharpened it. inspecting the blade with a x10 jewelers eye piece I could see them. So I took the dullest knife and used the ultra fine to do all the sharpening. it took awhile but now that stone is smooooth. and so are the edges of my knives again.

after many sharpenings i noticed that my coarse stones had worn down and the fine stones no longer followed the same angle. diamonds help alleviate this, as does an edgepro! ---===@===--- there exists no difference between gods and men. one blends softly casual into the other.

I use the coarsest diamond stone to dress up the first 2 or 3 standard stones, cleans them right up and gets them flat again.

I heard of that... you place the two stones faces together an rub them together right?
