Pre-production knives that are numbered up to the first 1,000: are they worth much more then a regular production of the same model? The reason I ask, I have one and hesitate to use it. Is it worth a premium over others, or should I just use it normally? if it makes a difference it is a 210 with carbon fiber.

I collect WW-2 items, especially German. Can you help me find some?

Welcome cckw.

The Pre-Production Benchmade models are not worth more than the un-numbered production versions of the same model. I say, and have a feeling that most others will agree, use it and enjoy it.

The carbon fiber handle and blade material matter more on that model.

Pre-production are to work the bugs out before putting out the regular production. They are worth the same as the regular un-number BM.

also how does the whole prototype thing work, as in, they seem to be made monthly, but are not numbered, how many are made each month and does benchmade still honor the warrenty the same way as other production knives

Prototypes are usually run in lots of 20 to 25 and are the only ones worth much more than the regular versions that follow.

Any time you can get your hands on one of those, do break the piggy bank and for land-sakes don't use them.

And like any other Benchmade they're covered under the limited lifetime warranty.

Just for curious why wouldn't you use it...just for collectabilty purposes?

I just caved and bought one of harlantaylor's protos and was planning to EDC it...You have me pondering my decision...
